Your dad is wrong. Apollo 11 successfully landed on the Moon in 1969 and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first two people to walk on the Moon. Buzz and Neil are still alive. Neil shuns publicity but Buzz Aldrin is active today in publicizing and supporting various space activities.

Well I'm sorry to say that your dad and a lot of other people that don't think that man has been on the Moon, are going to get a really big surprise when the get the new telescope in Chili on line, then take photos of the lower parts of the space craft that was left behind.
They seed man would never fly and do other things.
The problem with a lot of people, they don't know anything other than what they learned in school and from others around them.
Here is something you can ask these people, if man hasn't gone to the Moon, then who put up the laser reflector to where they can measure the distance from Earth to the Moon, plus the reflector had to be aligned so the beam would be sent back to earth in the right location to receive it.

No.
Since 1932 (thanks to Mr. Jansky), it has been possible to tell the direction from which space radio signals (natural or artificial) are received.
The communications from the Moon (voice and TV) were followed by radio-telescopes all around Earth (as the Moon went around, we had to track them). Some of these were in Australia, others in Europe, South America, etc.
Of course, the Soviets were listening in. Like everybody else, they could tell where the signals were from. If the signals had come from some studio on Earth instead of from the Moon, the Soviets would have told everyone.
Because, until that day, they were ahead in the space race: first satellite, first man in space, first woman in space, first pictures of the other side of the Moon, first landing on the Moon (but unmanned). Plus, in those days, there were not the friendly type, certainly not friendly enough to play along with such a charade.

I´m sorry but your dad doesn´t seem to be right in the head. There is so much footage that shows that it was shot in a vaccum. The soil doesn´t float around like it would in air. It drops to the ground in ballistic trajectories like led hail. But the soil is extremely fine dust. Like powder. Don´t bother looking up that "documentary" one other answerer bought (sad). The guy that made it has been exposed as a con artist who manipulates moonfootage to make it appear as a fake. He does this to sell DVDs (again, sad) and books. And he holds lectures about the moonlandings being fake and charges thousnads of dollars that conspiracy nuts gladly cough up...
