Basically, I just started running to improve my cardio vascular health. Now, I try doing two miles, but sometimes I have to stop at one since my legs around the front bones close by the calf muscle is killing me! I heard it's called a shin splint or whatever. It hurts really bad, sometimes I try ignoring it, but it wont stop. I mean, I want to get healthy, but I cannot exercise because this shin splint is killing me! It's been a week! How do I make it go away? (Thanks).

you have to take a break for at least three days to let your muscles rest and start to repair. When you start back cut your time by half And only run every other day, this gives your muscles a chance to recover. Slowly over a few weeks increase your time.

Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.

Massage an analgesic cream into the sore muscles.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with Mineral Water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously. You must drink beyond your thirst to get the benefits of hydration and the real key is the Mineral Water.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body. One tip for athletes: it is healthier to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee, or milk during competition or active training periods.

500mg of calcium and magnesium, taken twice daily, can help with diminishing the pain.

Advil liqui capsules work very quickly on pain. Take them four times daily.

Probably a muscle spasm. Use some Bengay and soak your legs in warm water, this will sooth them. Try taking a Tylenol or an Aspirin to help the pain as well, good luck. I'm a runner myself so I totally know where you're coming from.

After you go for your run, you should be doing muscle stretches in order to prevent muscle soreness. Do a few lunges after your exercise as well and you'll feel much better.

You have to have good shoes and you have to stretch your shin muslces. To do that, sit on the floor. Put one leg to your side and stretch one leg out in front of you. Point your toes forward on the outstretched leg. Bend down and stretch as you normally would. You should feel it pulling on your shin muscles. Don't stretch cold muscles though. Properly warm up before you stretch. And definitely stretch after you run. Let these shin splints heal (don't run again until they feel better). But then start running again but with good shoes and stretching.

Dude, sorry to hear about your problem. You need rest and therapy to speed your recovery along. If you continue to try to run you are just going to aggravate it. Ice, rest and antiiflammatories (ibuprofen). See a sports trainer and/or physical therapist.

Walk, power walk... Swim is great as well, I used to swim a lot when I was in Water Polo.

Stair Master, that way you aren't stomping on your feet and legs.

Drink Powersport energy drink. If it lets babies run as fast as Kenyans, what do you think it will do for you?
