As much as I personally hate the sad truth, physical appearance is EVERYTHING when getting a good acting job. If you want to go professionally, if you don't have "The Look" that the casting director wants, they'll gladly show you the door out. It doesn't matter if you're talented. If you aren't the TYPE they want, they'll send you out even if you're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Weight is second only to height in theater, but it's definitely at the front if you're looking at TV acting. Then comes the rest of your physical appearance such as your face.
The trick is to know your TYPE and go after parts that are your type, because you won't get anything else in theater or TV. It will save you a lot of disappointment if you just accept that fact, and trust me, it sucks. I could never be the title role in Phantom of the Opera because I'm too short (as of right now, I am still fifteen after all). It doesn't matter that I have an operatic voice that would blow the roof off the theater, there are enough people out there that match that part's type to find someone who is just as good. On TV, it's even worse--if you aren't talented but you have "The Look," they'll GIVE you talent.
As for memorizing, there is no real trick to it. Everyone memorizes lines at different rates, but one thing that helps is to copy them from the script on to paper. Not typing, but staring at your lines in the script and copying them from the script to the paper...over and over again. It helps them stick in your mind for some reason. Otherwise, all I can say is stare at them and say them over and over again until they're embedded into your memory.
As for NY auditions, I wouldn't know, but the internet is always a good place to start...you can find anything online. Two good agencies are the Screen Actor's Guild (for TV and movies) and Actor's Equity for theater.

It really depends on the role/manager. There are some roles that just can't be played by a slightly chunkier person, and some that need one. Also, a lot of people focus on image, and being a bit overweight might get a mental "I don't think so".
As for memorizing a script, sit down with it and try memorizing what you have to say, bit by bit. While you're doing this, get up and move around, figuring out how you would say this, what emotions to use, how you'll use your body to express the words. Run through your script many, many times, and you'll find that after a while, you'll just know what to say next, and when to say it. It also can help to have somebody play the other parts if it's not a monologue.
For auditions, I'd love to help, but if I could, I'd be there too. I look on the internet and in newspapers regularly...always keep your eyes peeled.
Best of luck!

Weight can be a deciding factor for some directors, but not all. Some cast on talent alone, while others cast on appearance and talent.
Memorization can be tricky. What I do when I have to memorize a script is read it at least twice a day and after a week of that I add writing my lines in the order that they are said.
Auditions in NY? Hummmm...do you have an agent ? If not get one, they're really helpful with these sort of things.
God Bless!!!!!

Well, it depends on the role, doesn't it. There is almost always a chubby friend of the main character and there have been lots of heavy actors and actresses who have become stars. So the first key is being very good at acting, and the second key is having an interesting look that will catch the eye of the casting directors.
Memorization of lines is just a trick of the trade. If you click on my namd, read my profile and write me at my aol address and ask for my outline on how to learn lines, I will send it to you.
Depends on what you are auditioning for. For a speaking part, you need an agent, for extra work, register at Central Casting.

Remember the three most important rules of memorization: See it, Say it, Write it.
If you see the words, say them out loud and write them down, you will never forget them.
Every person who has had a successful bar exam, or medical exam, or similar, knows this maxim.
Good luck to you. Also, try Actors Access. It is a great web site and you can find character or other roles that may get you exposure.
We are all expecting great things from you... very best of luck and remember, there is no substitute for hard work.
Your friend ....

one million. Acting pointers. Pay very near awareness for your scene companions, the ones different actors with whom you're auditioning, and hold doing that once you get solid, for the period of practice session and for the period of performances. Listen particularly rough. Even in a scene in which you're meant to be ignoring anybody, you may also seem clear of them, however you will have to nonetheless be paying attention to the whole thing they are saying, and the way they are saying it. Then simply say your traces. Don't you have to be whatever or any one rather then your self both. (At least for now. You are simply starting.) No humorous voices or accents, no running with a limp, no humorous posture -- until the script specially requires it. By simply being there listening and announcing your traces as certainly as you'll, you are going to come of as optimistic and a individual will magically look to the viewers. two. Singing pointers. Unless you will have first-rate making a song skills proper now, don't forget getting a few vocal teaching. Your tune trainer can aid you with both teaching you him or herself, or they are able to advocate anybody who can. three. Little tips... Hmmm, sorry. No tips. Acting is without doubt one of the toughest matters to do. Everyone underestimates how elaborate it's to painting a individual on level or display. I'll provide you a few commonplace appearing pointers. Stand nonetheless. Don't transfer until you believe you have to transfer. Otherwise you are going to simply seem fearful. Speak evidently. Know your traces. Treat it just like the rough (however amusing) paintings that it's and you are going to be high-quality. Right now, you cannot out of the blue have years or appearing enjoy, so attempt to hold it useful. After years of appearing, you are going to regularly come again to preserving it useful besides. Good success and holiday a leg.
