Age of consent meant the age at which time a child is considered a legal adult in the eyes of the court. this age varies by state. It is usually used in the instance of sexual contact. If a teenager is considered by law to be of the age of consent it means they have the right to decide for themselves if they want to have intimate relations with someone.

When someone reaches what is considered the age of an adult they are of the age of consent. In CA the age of consent is 18. I think it is 18 in most US states.

The age at which a person is responsible for making his own decisions in the eyes of the law. For contractual purposes and for agreeing to things which would otherwise be an assault (eg. tattoos) it coincides with the age of majority (18 in the UK). For sexual matters it coincides with the age at which a person can legally be married (16 in the UK).

In legal terms, it is the age at which you can sign contracts for yourself. Until you reach that age, a parent/guardian has to make all legally binding agreements for you.
