How do I switch from soy infant formula back to cow's milk formula without upsetting my son's stomach? The reason I switched to soy was because i felt it might be easier on his tummy because he was so gassy. He's older now 3 months and I think it would be better if he were on cow's milk formula. He has been on soy for about a month and I was wondering if there was a need to ease him back into cow's milk or can I just make the switch?

buy the smallest size you can, he may not tolerate it and you will waste $$. Mix a small amount in with his regualr soy bottles , like 2 oz regualr to 6 oz soy. Try this for a few days to see how he is tolerating it, then increase the amount of regualr and decrease the amount of soy. In time you can switch to all soy. But if he has any problems, gas, diarreah, vomiting, stop!!!!!

My son was lactose intolerant until shortly after his second birthday. As a newborn, he was very gassy and putting him on soy formula fixed the problem. We would occasionally try making a switch to regular formula but he would always get an upset stomach. At a year, we placed him on Lactaid milk and he is now able to drink 2% without any problems. My advice would be to try making the switch and if the baby shows signs of discomfort to switch back. Try again around 8 months, then a year and so forth. Good Luck.

I have raised my own 2 children and many many foster children and with this experience, I would strongly suggest that you do not put your son on cow's milk just yet - he is too young for that at 3months.

The soy is a LOT easier on his system and does not cause/promote gas as milk does as you are right in thinking. Give your little guy a while longer, 3-4 months -its worth it.

I know it may cost more to feed him the soy or soy formula but 3 months is too young for cow's milk.

But you must check with your doctor about any nutritional/health issues regarding your child.

That would still upset his stomach.. you will have to use that Lactaid milk formula until he turns 2 and then try him on 2% percent milk . Both of my children are lactose intolerant and thats what i have to use

You could actually get a lactose free cow's milk formula for him.
