My daughter whom is 15 i believe is pregnant. She confided in me about a month ago about what had happened when her and her boyfriend had sex for the first time. She told me that the condom had tore and they didn't realize it until it was over. She hasn't had a period since May 13, 2007 and she has always been regular. The date that the tore condom incident took place was 5-27. I took her to my ob/gyn and ended up having to see another dr in the office because my usual one was booked for weeks. I explained to the dr. that i had bought and given her 2 urine home tests and they came back negative but after having 4 children myself she was having all of the same symptoms i experienced during my pregnancies. He gave her a blood test which also came up negative (i believe it was the yes/no blood test). She is very skinny and now her stomach is looking very rounded in the tummy area and she still feels pregnant. What are the chances the blood test was wrong, thanks.

at almost 3 months pregnant she should have had a positive. Did the r do a pelvic or an ultrasound? Ask for another appt, if she is pregnant the baby will be visible on ultrasound, andif shes not there may be a reason her periods are not happening, and the dr can help her get tham back and get ehr on the pill. Good luck, and thanks for being an understanding mother and helping your daughter instead of chastising her!!!

The timeline definitely seems possible. The amount of time between her last menstruation and the intercourse would put her right in the middle of the most fertile part of her cycle at the same time as their consummating the relationship.

Generally speaking, blood tests for hCG are the most sensitive type of pregnancy testing and can detect a pregnancy earlier than urine tests. Blood and urine tests performed by a laboratory are from 97-100% accurate in detecting pregnancy. That is not to say however, that false negative results do not occur.

You didn't say exactly when you took her to the doctor for her test, but doctors recommend taking the test no less than a week (most recommend 7-12 days) after possible conception. That is typically how long it takes the body to produce a detectable level of hCG. Since the test looks at concentration levels in the blood, if the test is given before the concentration of hCG is high enough to register you will see either an inconclusive or a negative result.

Your intution as a mother sounds both reasonable and logical. I would recommend getting her back to a docter and explaining your concerns. Based on what you have said here, it sounds more than reasonable to do the test again.

Best of luck.

Yes times infinity. Pregnancy is still very possible even with the tests coming back negative. Reason is because you a-tested too early, or b- tested too late. The only definate way to tell is to see an OB or demand a sonogram/ultrasound. It is lowly-common that allot of doctors are wrong. If you shrug it off you may have an 'I didnt knwo I was prego' incident. Happened to sister! but she was heavy set, always had irregular periods and nothing struck curiousity til she went into labor 9 months later!!

If the test was shortly after the "deed" then it could have been done too early even for a blood test. I would suggest that if she has not been re-tested recently that you get her in for another test just to double check. By now an exam would show if she is pregnant as well. You might ask them to send out for hcg levels instead of a yes/no test.

yes they can be faulty only if taken to early. a young girls cycle changes though after having sex for the first time. mine used to be painless before sex and regular then after sex it messed my cycle up for awhile I was 17 though and my cycles became very painful after having sex the first time. most likely she is pregnant an was tested to soon. she was tested only 11 days after sex thats to soon to get an accurate result.

a blood test is only wrong if taken to early, if her last period was may,it wouldn't be to early for a blood test,so shes probably not pregnant
