Ghana has just remonetized, and one new cedi is equal to 10000 old cedis, as of 1 July 2007.

If what you have are old cedis (dated 2006 or earlier), 500 old cedis is about five cents US, and not worth the effort to exchange.

Hi,

Of course, one important issue is are you here in Ghana trying to exchange it? If you're in any developed country (US, UK, etc.), you won't be able to exchange it at all. In Ghana or a neighboring African country, you can exchange it any pretty much any forex bureau.

Is the Ghana Cedi you are referring to the new currency or the old money? If you've go the new currency, you've got a bit more than $500, if you've got the old currency, you've got about 5 cents.

Usually you can exchange it at the airport. There should be a kiosk or booth set up where you can exchange the UK currency for American currency when you return to the States.
