STDs don't know or care how old you are (although condoms are actually little protection from them)...and 40 yrs olds can still get pregnant or cause pregnancy...what would being middle aged have to do with being responsible during sex?

since it's your wife your talking about, you wouldn't be worried about stds. but unless you've had a vasectomy or she's on birth control there's still a good chance she can get pregnant. my mother had me when she was 42 and i know a few women who have gotten pregnant in their early 40s. it is riskier to go through with a pregnancy at that age, but it is very possible to get pregnant.

Unless you'd rather use some other method or get pregnant. I'd continue to avoid the hormone stuff, though. We find the diaphragm quite effective.

Maybe you misunderstood what makes babies and the simple precautions that minimize the need for abortions or
