If my pets can be covered at such low costs then why is it my family can not be covered for close to the same price .
Animals get the same level of care as people do . Lab tests x-rays, MRI's , medications injections and operations .

A friend of mine paid his vet 10,000 dollars cash to perform a heart transplant on his dog .

He went to the pound and got 3 dogs of the same breed to match up a donor and saved his beloved pet . True one of the dogs had to die but his pet was saved .

Should we have organ donation cards for animals . Are humane societies selling organs for transplant ???? I have heard rumors there is a black market on animal parts .

Maybe instead of complaining you should go do something about it.

How about you get out of your Ivory Towers and stop thinking your so much better then everyone and get some things done.

For someone who enjoys running his mouth you sure have a lot of nothing coming out of it.

Because usually, if a person can't afford to treat a dog, they usually wait until it fits into their budget, rather than taking the dog to the vet, and having to file bankruptcy on a 50,000 dollar bill that causes losses to the provider, which is passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.
Also, when a dog needs life support, the pet owner usually does the sensible thing and puts them down, rather than having an insurance company pay the expense, which is also passed on to the consumer in the form of higher insurance premiums. And when they do so, it isn't drug out by politicians trying to get a vote by trying to prevent the pet from being taken off lifesupport.

As far as lawsuits, pet owners do sue, and for huge amounts when their pet is killed needlessly.

You mean they went to the pound to find a healthy dog to kill to get it's heart?? that is terrible!!!! why didn't they just put the dog down (do you realize the regimen required to maintain a dog with heart transplant, the drugs, reactions etc? what quality of life for that dog?) and keep the dog pound dog?

I think they saved the dog for themselves and were not seeking it's best interest or being fair to the other poor dog whom they could of adopted. Emotions are nice when balanced by logic and justice. but purly emotion? that is harmful.

Well you are less likely to take your dog to the vet for every little ailment. Also I don't know what vet you take your animals to but it is a lot cheaper to take my dog to the vet for his check up and shots that it is to take my children in. It is still cheaper to treat an animal then it is to treat a human and I would guess the the nursing care that my dog gets is nothing compared to the attention my kids get when they are in the hospital. You can't just put a kid in a kennel and check on him periodically.

Animals in ameircan society are MUCH MORE valued than human life. I think people do that to some how apease their guilt for not caring about human life any longer in the USA. Unless of course, it's an unborn fetus then life is precious beyond imagination but DAM&*( you when you come out of the womb.

Whether you have private insurance or government socialized medicine, there is no way you are going to get healthcare coverage for $35.00 per month. Someone will have to foot the bill for medical costs, whether it's you or some taxpayer burdeded with paying for you.

Just think for a moment what doctor has to go through to train, pay for his education, pay for his malpractice insurance (exorbitant, thanks to lawyers), pay for his equipment, pay for his office space, his staff, his accounting and all the other miscellaneous expenses.

If they guy agrees to even see you for a $35 office visit, he's giving you a break.

Quality medical treatment costs money, big, big money.

If your friend paid $10,000 cash to a vet, where'd the insurance come in?

Besides, pet insurance is new. When you loony pet owners start demanding that everything including heart transplants be covered by your insurance, you'll start paying as much if not more for Fido's coverage.

uh....$35.00 a month for pet insurance is A LOT. I pay one flat fee of 100 dollars a year for my pet. That's just in case he gets sick and I have to bring him to the pet hospital. My plan covers the hospital visit and medication. But it does not cover surgery. But still, you are being ripped off.

Animals do not get the same service as people do. You don't get to find a person off the street and take his heart. You have to wait for some one, who wants to donate, to die. This makes a high demand with little supply. Also, Vets malpractice insurance is much more affordable because they get sued less.

Humans cost a lot more. And that $10,000 dollar heart transplant on that dog would cost well over $250,000 for a human.

because the kids should live longer than the dog so the health care should cost more if they live longer

Black market animal parts don't always go back into animals they go into humans too sometimes
