Sure not a problem, just rinse off any grit or sand. No need to boil it, use soap or anything else, it's safe if you rinse it well.

Sure, but as with anything you put in the tank, wash it extremely well, anything that is on it could be extremely harmful to the fish. Warm water and diluted soap should be fine... I did the same thing with some shells I found. Good luck! :0)

I don't have fish or anything, but my guess is that the reason you're afraid of putting them in there is due to the salt content on them...
Why not soak them in fresh water for a day, change the fresh water and soak them again? Repeat the process till you're confident the salt has come off...
That would be what I do.

A wash with warm soap and water will do fine. Its not the salt you have to worry about, but any bacteria that may be harmful.
