The Yankees' starting rotation is so-so. And Mariano Rivera is having a so-so year. If it wasn't for A-Rod, Jeter, Posada haven't great seasons, the Yankees would be out of the playoff hunt. As it stands now, they have a good chance of sneaking in as the wild card. Too far back to catch the Bosox. Also Wang this year, not as good as last year. Mussina inconsistent. Clemens losing pop on the fastball. Pettite the most consistent of the lot. Not a top notch pitching staff to win the world series.

I think it will be very difficult to win their division. They'll have a shot if they fare well against the Sox head-to-head, but it's asking a lot to overcome a 5-game deficit this late. It doesn't seem like a big lead, but the odds are heavily against them.
The wildcard is a much more likely possibility. They're neck and neck with Seattle, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the M's fall off the pace a little. They're a very good team, but I think the Yankees have the better shot down the stretch.
