No. He'll always be compared to Peyton, which is unfair. How many qbs could live up to that? But he did Choose to go to the biggest media market in the nation. He also chose not to share an offensive huddle with Ladanian and Antonio Gates. Basically he made it a lot worse than it had to be. From the moment he decided he was too good for the chargers the bulls eye was on his back. Honestly, the Chargers got lucky twice: Eli and Vick.

As much? No, but he still would face plenty. Look at other 1rst round qb's who struggle - Leftwich, Carr, Harrington, etc. All of them had rough spots, and they all face a lot of criticism because they were hailed as saviors of teams before they even took a snap. It's a tough situation to step into, and his namessake made it harder on him.

And for the people saying that he wouldn't be in the NFL if his name wasn't Manning - you're idiots. You don't become the number one draft prospect based purely on your family's accomplishments. Yes, he may not have ended up the number one pick, but he would definitely have a job. You can't tell me that he wouldn't at least be able to make it as a backup for most teams. If he could be more consistent, he would be very, very good.

Of course not. He has the unenviable task of following in his brother's - and somewhat his dad's too - giant footsteps (no pun intended). If he was Eli Smith, he wouldn't have been followed so closely all through high school and college, either.

Even if Eli puts up a couple of huge seasons, I think he'll still not get the credit he deserves. He'll unfortunately always be Peyton's little brother.

Would Michael Vick have to endure as much scrutiny had he not funded and participated in dog fighting and animal cruelty?

He doesn't endure any more scrutiny than any other NFL QB. When you can't do the job the media is going to jump on you no matter who you are.

No. 1 pick in the draft
Refuse to play for team that drafted you ( San Diego )
Want to play in New York
Last name is Manning

Even if his last name weren't Manning he still would under a lot of pressure.

I really don't think the last name has any thing to do with it he's in New York youre only as good as your last game plus the guy has the second most loaded offense in the NFC I could throw for 3000 yards it's always tough to play in New York and with all the weapons he has he should be a all pro.

He was a number 1 pick. He is expected to produce no matter what his last name his. He and his Daddy Archie cried not wanting to be drafted by San Diego and now Phillip Rivers is having the last laugh. He was drafted 1st. Its time for him to play like a top draft choice

If his name wasn't Manning, Eli wouldn't be in New York anymore.

He wouldn't have gone in the first round if his name wasn't Manning. It was the closest thing to a guarantee that a team can get with a quarterback.

In a word. NO! But he did commit himself to New York City, which isn't exactly a place to hide in. And he was in a draft day trade for which he hasn't lived up to and the other guy in that trade..Phillip Rivers....well he looks A LOT BETTER!!!!
