i would say Thomas Jefferson as he was one of the founding fathers and the author of the declaration of Independence. there are many, George Washington lead the Americans against the British to a great victory. bill gates has spread American technology to every single corner of the world. gosh even the American actors like Silvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have played a big part in lifting America. the things is there isn't one great person that's what make the country such a successful one. this country is ruled and maintained by many good humans. well at least most of the time.

The American people have made the greatest impact. if you want the greatest American, look no further than yourself and those around you. we are the greatest impact because we have the opportunity to be the greatest impact. there is no greater country to live in that has as much freedom as we do. hope I helped. =).

My vote would be for Abraham Lincoln. He saw America through a civil war and managed to keep the Union together in the end. He helped to end slavery in America as well. So I think he was a pretty good American. :)

Is it the whole of America, which is concerned? or do you mean the USA? And which year , for you, does your history start? And is having had the greatest impact equal to having been the greatest man as such?

Personally I don't think most Americans were great in a historical sense. Benjamin Franklin is one of the few legitimate great ones. Thomas Edison was another. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and the other 'founding fathers' are far over-rated, and on a global perspective, made little to no impact.
Not exactly true. Washington's impact on the victory at Yorktown was only peripheral. With the entry of France into the war on the side of the colonists, the British pull-out of America was inevitable.
Rosa Parks?? My god...I don't even know what to say to that...

Benjamin Franklin. He wrote the Constitution (in the same spirit as the masonic constitution, by the way)
