Whales are mammals, so they feed just like humans do. Only they do it under water...LOL!

Whale, dolphins and porpoise are mammals, much like you are. The females have mammary glands. The young have to be shown were it is, from there it is pretty much instinct. They do have to come to the surface to feed young when they are first born. Takes a while for baby whales to get the strength to stay underwater for long times. Once the babies are strong enough the mother can feed them while they are submerged.

The same way other animals feed their newborns: mother's milk.

The mammary glands are underneath the whale, towards the back end of the body.
