If the reason isn't obvious please explain. (like if a town called "riverside" is in a desert).

I'm just curious. Saw a question asking about least favorite word and this grew from that.

Shawn, good answer, didn't know those existed. But, Spread Eagle lakes would be better. Seeing as Spread Eagle WI, as well as Hell MI are not incorporated names so they are not official.

Ocean View, up near Everest.

Or Upper Slaughter, near Lower Slaughter (in England somewhere - we went there in the 70's) [Must be by the pig farms]

Windy Way, on one of those 100 mile freeways that go through West Texas, where the road becomes a dot in the distance it is so straight!

(all of the above are made up, cept #2!!) Nice idea though~

Baie D'Espoir in Newfoundland is pronounced Bay Despair. It is French and actually means means Bay of Hope

cdgomez - prairie for the original settlers in America meant any fields, not what you call 'prairies' today.

Could one add Greenland, which is covered with ice, and Iceland, which is covered with gravel and sheep?

Toad Suck, Arkansas.

That just really doesn't have anything going for it at all. Not even the fact that it's relatively close to Booger Hollow, Arkansas.
