Mines a pretty embarassing one.
I was in the 5th grade taking an end of the year assessment. During our break I went to the bathroom only to find out that I had gotten my first period. I had to go back to my room and tell my MALE teacher that I needed to go to the nurse. Naturally because it was an exam, I had to tell him it was for my period in front of the entire class. I went down to the nurse, got a pad, and was sent back to class. Luckily I was wearing a dark skirt so nothing showed.
The next day, I wasn't so lucky. I was still using the pads recommended by my school nurse, but apparently they were too small. I again went to the bathroom only to find that my light jean colored shorts were completely covered in blood. Once again, I went back to my classroom, had to tell my male teacher, and go down to the nurse. I knew the entire class could see it because the blood was everywhere. The nurse called my mom and my mom asked if I wanted new clothes brought in, or if I wanted to come home, so I chose to go home.
The next day I went to class more prepared. I had better pads on, but still wore a light purple colored short set. I didn't have any breakthrough bleeding and managed to survive the day. My teacher did ask me if I was okay, but that was it. He never treated me differently or anything like I expected him to.
For my first period I used pads, but I've switched to tampons now that I'm older.

I was 14 when I had my first period, which was much later than my friends who had theirs at 11 or 12. It was not a big deal, except I was too embarrassed to tell my mom, so I just helped myself to her pads. Then when it was all over with, she was asking what happened to all her pads, and I had to tell her then. I never liked using tampons, although I tried them. Then came the big scare about Toxic Shock Syndrome, and I never used them after that.
Speaking of tampons, and this is a Halloween story -- when my daughter went to a costume party, she dressed as a tampon, putting a large cardboard cylinder around herself, and a big pile of cotton on her head. She had a rope hanging out the bottom to look like the string. This was at a bar, and some clown poured ketchup all over the cotton on her head to look like blood. It was pretty gross, but she won first prize. LOL! You don't have to give me the points, because this isn't really the answer to your question, but just thought I'd share....

In 5th grade my friend Chasity & I came home from school. Chasity headed for the bathroom. Next thing I knew she was screaming for me. I walked in & she didn't know if she pooped her pants or if she was bleeding. So we were totally freaked out. After discussing it, we decided she was internally bleeding so we called 911. A woman answered & we started telling her how Chasity was internally bleeding so we needed an ambulance. The lady asked a few simple questions like how come we thought that etc. And the lady started laughing & told us to look under the sink in the bathroom & see if we could find pads. We did & luckily there was some. She gave Chasity specific instructions on what to do with it. And also told us we really needed to talk to our mom's the second they got home. lol.
Because of that, when I started in 8th grade, I knew exactly what was happening & had tampons ready. lol. And wasn't surprised at all.

Okay don't laugh! I was in the 9th grade and it happened during my p.e. class. I was on dance team and my instructor had us running indians outside. We came in to get water and return to the gym. I went to use the restroom and when I pulled down my panties, I was like "OH SNAPS, I know i did not number 2 on myself and not feel it! (it was really dark brown)" After some logical reasoning (giggle) I figured "this must be a PERIOD" My friend gave me some huge pad, and it was so uncomfortable...I think I waddled around school for the rest of the day. What a way to start of your freshman year! :)

um I was 11 yrs old when I first got it. my mom had already educated me on the matter but she wasn't inside the house when I realized what was going on. i totally forgot everything she had told me and thought I was bleeding to death trying to stop it with tissue lol. my mom couldn't believe it and said, 'you're on your period baby.' she told all the women in my family (aunts & grandma) because she was excited for her little lady (me =) They threw me a period party hee hee! I used pads for the first time. My mom didn't want her little girl sticking stuff up there =]

I remember, I thought I was going to bleed to death and didn't know what was happening. I was horrified... when my mother was done with the small lecture of explaining... I had a mattress between my legs and thought..... how long in my life did you say I would go through this? Hahahah
