This very informal yet powerful meditation can be done while drowsing in bed as you are waking up or going to sleep, resting on the couch, or sitting with a straight posture. The premise of the meditation is that heavy energy caused by emotional trauma is lodged in the body, in particular in the energy centers called chakras. These spots of heavy energy become blockages of chi, ultimately manifesting in emotional and spiritual problems, and sometimes physical illness. The purpose of the meditation is to dissolve and dislodge the blockages.
SIMPLE SOLUTION: Spiritual healing can have a very profound effect on your life, and this technique is one that will help no matter what your experience with energy work may be, whether you are old or young, sick or healthy. Learn how, here:

I have meditated for years and it's the BEST!
All religious have a "mystical" branch, what about yours? For example, in Jewdaism it's Kaballah, in Hinduism they use mantra, etc. I suggest you may wish to stay within the mystical branch of your own teachings. I use the word "mystical" for lack of a better word, by the way, don't let it scare you off.
Or, you can do simple breath meditation -- observation of breath is very powerful. Sit quietly, close the eyes, watch the breath in, watch the breath out. Inhalation energizes, exhalation relaxes. Build up to 20 minutes to a half hour program. And always make sure to come out slowly -- that is, give yourself a few minutes with eyes closed between observation of breath and jumping back into activity.
Also, your therapist may have ideas of meditation teachers in your area.
I like the idea of going to a teacher, because meditation can be very powerful and the teacher can offer you assurances about your practice.
Good luck!

It is a great idea. Meditation is just a form of relaxation basically. I found it a little hard to get into initially, but since I have, everything in my life seems easier (probably just my perception, but who cares!). My suggestion is get a basic, guided meditation cd. Do not try to do it yourself. Get one that tells you what to think. If you are a beginner, I would doubt you'd have any luck any other way and would end up giving up because it would frustrate you (I almost did!).
PS Meditation is just about visualising things, seeing pictures in your head, relaxing your brain

I have a friend who recently went through the same thing and also have some family members who are on medication. It really has been the best thing for all of them. At first they were nervous and skeptical about the medication, but once they started taking it they realized it made a huge difference in their daily attitudes, and decisions. If your therapist suggests it, it probably is a great idea. Try it out and monitor your feelings and see if you notice a change, if you don't then you can always get off of it. Good luck! :)

Listen! Since you're"conservative religiously", why don't you simply get on your Knees and pray.(Hello) I can't think of any better way to 'center' yourself than focusing and praising your God. You will be less anxious and no doubt more confident to handle the rigors of the day. Forget searching other forms and cultures. Clasp your hands interlocking the thumbs and forefingers, close your eyes and bow your head. Get your praise on. Ahhh, feels better already! God Bless!

Do not think of meditation as something "eastern." Anyone can achieve meditation and there are many ways to do it, including prayers.

Here is one example of a meditation. Put yourself in a quiet room. Then, focus on an object in front of you and try "softening your vision" until you see double. Keep that "soft vision" as you close your eyes and make deep, even breaths. Do not think of anything, and instead just listen to the sound of your breath.

You have a wise therapist who understands psychosomatic disorders. The mind (brain) controls everything in our bodies. The most effective meditation is prayer to our Creator, God, since he made our minds and bodies. God uses the medical profession and therapists to heal bodies that have got out of order. This may come about by our own bad way of life, or that of people who have influence on us. The way to start is to treat God as a listening friend, and talk to Him in that way.

Repetitious prayers and praise in a quiet and focus manner are a simple form of meditation.

Meditation is practiced by Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, and members of other liberal religions. You should research these religions and see if you want to be like these people.
