by doing whatever it takes to drive out the US occupying forces so that they can go about setting up the government that THEY want, not waiting for the puppets we installed to do something.

I think the question needs to be further elaborated. However if u mean that how Iraqis can save themselves from being influenced by American culture,so the answer i think will be that the US is now super power alone and its influence all over the world can not be denied. Moreover the world has became a global village and it is now difficult to maintain own heritage and values Caz the people starts following the cultures of countries demonstrating as super. The media has made this easy.

Probably kinda late for the Arab world.
This thing is going to continue until people realize that the only solution is the use of nuclear weapons.
As soon as we let pressure off & allow their economies to return to full function they will retaliate.
The only way they could save themselves at this point would be to modernize like Turkey has. Turkey is not a threat because they do not advocate the slaughter of civilians for demonstration purposes, they use technology from this century, & they are co-operative with other modern nations.
However the arguement could be made that by modernizing they have already Americanized.
The first thing I want to do when I graduate (-1 year) is to spend some time in the middle east. Because I have come to the conclusion that this conflict is based less on religion and more on the fact that theirs is a society which refuses to modernize.
Which if that is truely the case means that at some point their race will either disappear entirely or large groups withing it will disappear until they modernize. This is the way history has always worked in the past with people like this.
Think about it this way. There are plenty of tribes in south america and africa that refuse to modernize. They have no electricity & they use only tools that they themselves created. Even if they are not killed off through violence they will eventually die as a race. The lack of modern medicine ensures shorter life spans and less likelyhood of offspring. Also the fact that the entire planet uses antibiotics but they are fairly rare amongst these people means that as contagious illnesses continue to evolve and improve they are the weakest of the human species. Because everyone one else has a man made advantage afainst disease except them.
I like the Arabs & I believe the situation is very sad. However wanting to live like it's 1600 is a fantasy. They use plenty of modern devises such as cars and electricity. So they need to accept at least some of the social norms that the entire rest of the world uses if they would like to further the existance of their people.

This assumes that they are "americanized" as it is. If they were, we wouldn't be having all these problems getting them to get their act together on responsible government, since it would be something already integral to their culture. No matter how long Americans stay there, Iraqis will be distinctly Iraqi (for better or worse)

We have given the Iraqis all of the humanitarian and military aid we can muster - the rest is up to them. They can choose an independent and free Iraq or they can continue to consider their sectarian blood lust and hatred more important.
It's up to them now.

By continuing to slaughter each other, as you are already doing on a daily basis, until none of you are left. At that point, the problem that the world has with you will be solved.
