Are the clothes that are all over your room dirty or thrown down because you wanted to change into a cuter outfit....?
Make sure you have a hamper in your room for dirty clothes. If you try on an outfit and do not like it *immediately* hang it back up.
Also try this in your closet. Hang the clothes up in your closet backwards. When you wear an item then return it to your closet with the hanger the correct way. Every six months go through your closet and all the hangers that are turned backwards are items you do not wear therefore can be donated.
Make sure everything in your room has a home and once you use an item return it to its home and your room will never be messy.
Good luck!

This takes some work to start and a little effort to maintain, but once you have the system in place, everything works like clockwork.
First, take every bit of clothing out of your closet and put them in one of three piles.
Keep
Donate
Trash
Bundle up the last two piles and get them out of your room. Promise yourself they will be out of the house in 48 hours.
Separate everything in the first pile by category.
shirts,
pants,
skirts,
jackets,
suits, if you wear them,
long things, dresses, coats, etc.
Hang each category by color, starting from the left and working to the right.
white/cream
beige
yellow/gold
peach/orange/coral
pink/red/maroon
purple
blue/navy
green
brown
black
Everytime you hang something back in the closet, hang it back in IT'S space. Everytime you take something off a hanger, put the hanger in a section with just empty hangers. That way you never have to rifle through the clothes looking for a spare.
If anything needs some attention, a button sewn back on, a hem re-sewn, pressing; hang it in the "hospital section." That way, you can see at a glance if what you are putting on is ready to go, instead of discovering a lost button after you leave the house. Too, when you have some spare time, you can fix the clothes without having to be in a panic.
Have a place to put clothes that need to be laundered. It can be as simple as a box or basket in the bottom of the closet. Promise yourself to never drop clothes on the floor. This alone will be a huge help in keeping your room neat.
Promise yourself that you will make your bed each morning as soon as you get up. Your bed is the biggest thing in the room and if that one thing is neat and there are no clothes on the floor or thrown on the furniture, the rest won't be too bad.
After you have mastered these two things, tackle the drawers where you keep underclothes, sleepwear and socks. Approach it the same way as the closet. Take everything out and sort. Things that are torn, too worn, or that no longer fit leave the room. Most home stores or big box retailers, (such as Target or Wal-Mart,) sell inexpensive organizers. However, you can make your own organizers from shirt boxes or gift boxes. Roll or fold under clothes and put each type in it's own box in the drawers. Again, with this sorting, you will always be able to find things.
The whole goal of organization is to put like things together, and the things you use regularly within easy reach. (This means within knee high to shoulder high.) Things that you use occassionaly can be tucked further away. Things that get used once or twice a year need to go to places the most difficult to reach.
If something hasn't been used in a year or more, you need to give serious consideration whether it needs to be taking up your valuable real estate or can be donated or trashed.
Having said this, we all have sentimental treasures. But you have to promise yourself not to let treasures clutter your life. There are two ways to address this. You might allow yourself, say, 5 things. If you get a new treasure, an old one has to go. Or you can have a box of treasures. If something new comes, it either has to fit in the box, or something else has to go.
As you become more organized, you will have more time and less stress. And as you enjoy the benefits of the system, it will help you organize other areas as well.
Promise yourself you will tackle only one area at a time. Give yourself a reward, and tackle another area another day. The first step is the hardest, but it really is worthwhile.

Well, a little fun i have to stay orginized is to section off my closet. I put all my short sleeved shirts by eachother, hoodies by eachother and jeans by eachother..and so on. So when i'm trying to find something to wear that day i can go right into the "section" for the right weather. It keeps me organized and helps me put away my clothes faster.
