you can actually extend the support to cover their college years as well. look into that. long term you'd be owed more money. however because he works for himself, he will have to submit his yearly tax paperwork to prove how "little" he is making. if you can handle it on your own for now without your children needing anything extra....kudos to you. arrears will still be in play for the amount of the last order. at some point you will have to take him back to court if you get the order extended to their college years anyway.

Child support does NOT stop at 18 if the child goes to college!
Business books? What books? Far too easy to simply leave things off the books and work for cash.
I know. My ex has been doing this all along.
He is several thousand behind on the court ordered support. C'mon, it's only $100 a week for the four youngest kids! It isn't that he didn't have the income when we got the divorce. The income was invisible.
I'm biding my time and busting my tail to feed and clothe these kids, but his day will come. And then I can have his butt thrown in jail until it's paid.

If you press the issue with the proper authorities, you could have your child support reduced like you mentioned. It's a tough call to make but I think if you're having money issues now or fear for it later, I'd leave well enough alone.

I'm not a lawyer, but I would think that the child support would be based on the income stated on his taxes. Of course, he could be cheating on this taxes, but that has pretty serious consequences. I wouldn't wait. See a lawyer now.

I know someone in this situation. If you can afford it, have him followed for a couple of weeks to see where he is working, etc. Then you can try to take him to court to get more money.

doesn't he file taxes? if he doesn't, then press charges now... if he is a private contractor, you can have a private investigator catch him.....he could be in serious trouble. besides owing you money on your child support, he could owe serious backtaxes. i say go for it.
