I am going to an out of state college for 4 years, and I need another pet that is NOT a bird, that can stay at home alone for at LEAST 9 hours. Maybe 6-8. I'll be gone from like 8 am to 6 or 5 pm. I also want this pet to play, be furry, and sociable and loveable toward me. Also that will be nice to my bird and I won't have to worry about leaving them alone at the house together. When I'm done college I am going to be either a Marine Biologist or a Massage Therapist so I need a pet that can either go with me or can stay at home with my bird. Please help me, I'd appreciate it! Why exactly can't you get another bird? Cockatiels live in large groups in the wild, your bird would love to have a companion and you wouldn't have to worry about one eating the other.

Other than that I'd reccommend a reptile (except a snake - they eat birds), fish, or a small furry animal like a mouse, ferret, etc.
