After all these are the same neocons (eg: Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Bill Kristol, Brit Hume, Fred Barnes, Rush Limbaugh, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, etc.) who proclaimed that US soldiers would be greeted as liberators, Saddam had WMDs, and that it would be a "cakewalk" to change the Iraqi government into a democracy.

Since the neocons got all of that wrong in regards to the invasion, why should we listen to their doom and gloom assessments on what will happen if we leave?

We shouldn't listen to the neocons--that's hw we got into this mess.

Iraq already is in chaos. And when we leave--whenever that is--it will get wors for a short time as Bush's puppet government falls. Then one or another faction in Iraq will win this CIVIL war and establish a new government. I t probably won't be a democracy-but that's their affair. After that, there will be peace in Iraq and they can start rebuilding their country.

Inother words, no "devastating aftermath." Bush's and the neocon's "predictions" are nothing more than the same hype the right-wing kept touting during Vietnam. And, then as now, it was pure nonsense. BUT, they say--look at what happened to the Saigon government. It fell--of course. It too was a proxy government without popular support, imposed on the population by a foreign invader. So of course it was overthrown. That kind of government never survives. Read history.

Hey, It's Bill Maher! Looking forward to your show tonight. Lets face it, we all know what happens when you create a power vacuum in a country. You get the next Pol Pot. Unless you think that the current Iraqi government can stand on it's own, chaos is inevitable. That's not looking into the future, that's looking into the past.

Because intelligent people remember there history and do not want to make the same mistakes. If you think nothing will happen if we just leave, then you're a nut. Peace

Because it will- but that's going to happen whether leave today or a hundred years from now. We're an occupying force, tamping down a civil war. As soon as we're not looking, they're going to finish what they started, so lets get out of the way and let them.

Honestly, what do you think would happen if we left? It certainly wouldn't make things better. Leaving only makes things better for the soldiers, which is a simple minded and short sighted goal. I don't want their lives to be in danger anymore either, but the US should stay committed to finishing what it starts, and not abandoning it because of partisan politics.

Iraq has already dissolved into Chaos, the question should be is it really that important now that our troops are caught in the crossfire?

No reason at all. They've been wrong about everything so far. Only an idiot would believe this Administration when they have had such a long track record of bad predictions and incompetence.
