You oughta consider something different and that is - If you leave your question open for a couple of days , other contacts of yours and of those who star your questions get more time to see it and respond . Some of , in fact many of the best answers I get are added 2 or 3 days later . And you can pick best answer then or even extend your question if you like . Just something for you to think about .

Welcome to the world of Yahoo, many here want instant gratification and think this is like google regardless of their question. Some very fine answers are submitted by people that work all day and cant sit here waiting to pounce on a question. I think around 95% of the questions asked here are not unique questions and many are asked several times per day going back years. Why cant yahoo database its best answers to frequently asked questions and divert the question to a best answer list. Further if the asker has not selected a best answer in this format by the time the question goes to voting, then they should not be able to ask another question until they close their open questions. Maybe limiting the number of open questions per asker it will make the asker actually read some of the well prepared responses. Some here are just plain tired of researching for a good answer only to see voters pick the first answer given without reading the rest. This isn't a perfect medium and it never will be, trying to over improve many things only makes them far worse. Maybe yahoo could send the asker a 4 hour warning that their question is in voting and if they dont respond in time they lose 25 points.

Not really. Some users (such as myself) actually browse past the first page of Q's and answer them well into the 4 day-time frame. A poster may not get the extra pts for any potential "thumbs-up," but it never hurts to answer nonetheless. Sometimes, those later posts turn out to be the most insightful answers. One may never know.
Another thing you may want to consider doing is holding out till you Q goes into voting. When you go back over the posts, just go to the bottom and select "No Best Answer." Once the voting period ends and no other votes are cast, Yahoo will delete the question altogether and your points will be reimbursed.
Hope this helps.

I don't know about you, but for me, it takes yahoo about 4 hours to post my question, so that is probably why they say wait 4 hours! They want to make sure you get SOME answers!

Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
The 4 hour min. gives enough time for lots of folks to answer. That gives you a greater chance of having the best answer possible.

You are right. In fact around here, if your question is more than 15 minutes old, you are not going to get any more attention so you migh as well select your best answer.

I did on one question, and someone kicked it out claiming I needed to update it (?) I suppose you didn't like the question. We should get an email about the subject if you don't want to keep the question up, at least. Thanks.

I agree with you. Generally, once they leave the page, you seldom get responses. I do star some of them with the hopes that others will see them and respond as well.

I rarely choose a best answer because I rarely get a answer I like.
