When goldfish breed they don't make guppies, they make more goldfish.

They aren't that hard to breed actually assuming you have a few things in place.

1. a fairly large tank, like 30-55 gallons.

2. At least 1 male and 1 female adult goldfish. They don;t breed until they are at least 2 years old and 3 years is the prime time to breed them

3. proper water conditions

4. well conditioned adult fish.

5. proper spawning sites for the eggs

Given those things, a little luck and a lot of information about breeding and raising goldfish, you can breed them

Goldfish are goldfish, guppies are guppies. Baby fish are called fry. While it is correct that, if you provide everything required, you can breed goldfish without too many problems, the problem lies in actually providing all of these things. First, it is virtually impossible to sex goldfish. You can only sex them when they are in breeding season, which doesn't usually occur until they are about 3 years of age. Males, during this time, will get tubercles (kind of like white pimples) on their gills and fins and the female will get larger around in the belly and her vent will become convex, but being able to see these changes in the female is still difficult. Another way to tell whether you have a male is that the males will chase the female when they are ready to breed. The problem is that, in the absence of a female, males will chase other males. So, you still may not know whether you have a female. So, your first problem of making sure you have a male and a female, is extremely difficult to do. Next, you have to provide the correct water and temperature environment that encourages the goldfish to go into their breeding cycle, which is more controllable and you may not get it right the first year, but you can eventually get it right. Then you have to make sure that, even if you do have a male and a female, that they both go into the breeding cycle at the same time. Then, the eggs need to be properly fertilized, which often, after all this other stuff happens, they are not. Then, you have to make sure that they aren't disturbed. So, no, it is not easy to breed goldfish.
