I am totally for freedom of speech and thought.....but I would 100% support a national ban on religion. Make it 100% private and stop respecting religion. Religion has had a free ride long enough. Religion does not provide any good to our society. It's basically a safety net for criminals, racists, child molesters, bigots, conman, etc....
We need to get over the idea that religion provides people with good rules to live by. THAT IS BS! Common sense tells you not to kill someone. Common sense tells you not to steal someones car. The notion that without religion our countrys' citizens would be a bunch of raping, unethical, criminals without the influence of religion is just plain retarded. How many priests need to rape a child before we realize that religion doesn't produce great people. Great people create and influence great people. We don't need some make believe person scaring us into being good people. We should be good people because that's the right thing to do.

Actually yes I am, whereas I realize you were using the term "political hostage" as a metaphor for undue and overbearing influence in politics which leads to exclusion from the political process, and the "not being valued as a person" can be sufficiently evidenced by the number and nature of some of the post and comments here as well as the vocal disdain so fervently expressed by some politicians and neo-con pundits.

Funny, I'm far more held hostage by the Atheist, Liberal/ Socialist Left and all their politically correct BS than I am by the Religious Right.
And the Religious Right supports individualism far better than the Left.

The religous right's influence and power is greatly exagerated and embellished; by who? Liberals, of course, they want to convince people that your choice is them or the fundamentalist, In reality, there is a huge middle ground.
Many peope reject both liberalism/socialism and the fundamentalists. I am tired of the lberal media exagerating the influence of the fundamentalists to trick people into bending to the left. If socialism was really that wonderful, why is it they do their damndest to trick you into believing it's a better way? Heck, liberals will not even say the "S" word, Hillary has told the meda to use the term "progressive" instead.

I watched an episode of the CNN special "God's Warriors" last night and it's really sad that humanity seems to have not made much progress in the last 3,000 years sometimes...
You don not have to be a part of the "Christian Right" to be a good Christian. God sees us all an individuals, not as a huge mass of frothing-at-the-mouth Bible thumpers. Keep in mind that the founding fathers drafted our constitution with the idea of separation of church and state.

Name me one person who is held hostage by the Christian right. Oh yeah, I didn't think you could. Well, better luck on your next juvenile query.

someone should take their religious right hand and slap this question off the table. it makes no sense. who exactly is holding you hostage, and last time I check you have the right to believe in whatever you want to in America. There are religious right wingers and radical liberal left wingers all trying to influence their political party on people. Just believe in your own heart what you think is right.

I am a Christian which is why I am not a conservative. I hold no one hostage. God says to love thy neighbor, which I struggle mightily with. Forgiveness is not my best trait either but I try. So I will try to understand why you would post this question. probably won't but I will try.

if you're talking about morality.. and that people trying to keep morals in our society are keeping you "politically hostage" then it seems to me that Christians in general are not the problem.. look within.
