All I know is I worked as a teacher in the Vulnerable wing and my radio was faulty. I was assigned call sign Quebec 28.
My radio had fully discharged and I didn't know.
When they did a net test to test the radio system I didn't answer 'cause radio knackered and I got the sack because of it.
I hate NATO Phonetic call signs

http://www.icao.int/icao/en/trivia/alphabet.htm

ICAO wrote Doc. 4444 to standardise the usage of the radiotelephony alphabet. It does not change from State to State although some States do pronounce some particular words differently (i.e. PAPA-the stress, or accent, is put on either syllable, depending on the country even though they shouldn't).

In England they use the same version. http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP413.PDF
