I plan on brestfeeding when my baby arrives. I will be a stay-at-home mom for awhile. Also a bit tight on money. I wasn't going to get a pump until a friend of mine suggested I have one on hand-just incase( engorgment, baby sleeping, want to go out...ect)
What kinda pump should I get?

I had both a manual pump, the Advent Isis one that was great. But just an FYI, especially if money is tight - many health insurances will pay for a breast pump (an electric one).
I had to have my doctor call them and say I required one for medical reasons, and they delivered a brand new Medela electric pump right to my door, and I was able to keep it! Just wanted to mention it in case you want to look into it.

Having used both - if you end up pumping more than a few times, I'd recommend getting an electric one - MUCH faster and works better. It is great, it gives you more than a 2 hour window if you want to go out, have your husband participate in feedings, etc. Good luck!!

I love my avent Isis uno IQ. Its an electric pump. I bought it on eBay for $96 Canadian dollars. I was blessed with just the right amount of milk to breastfeed 1 infant but not a whole lot extra. ( meaning very little engorgement when milk came in and I don't leak at all. Not even when I miss a feed). Pumping with my manual avent pump was ok but it would take me along time 2 get a bottle. Now with this iq if pump early in the am Ill get enough for one bottle in 20min. I am staying at home so my baby only gets a bottle occasionally as well.

I really loved my Avent hand pump. It was cheap, maybe $39 when I bought it 8 years ago (so probably a little higher now). Super comfortable, super easy to use & clean, super effective.

When I had to go back to work, I invested in a Medela Pump In Style. This more than paid for itself, and after I was done using it for 2 babies, I sold it to a girl at work and made back $75, so I really felt like I came out ahead on the deal.

If I were you i breastfed both my children bot only pumped with my 1st I suggest you use a manual pump the brand is called MEDELA it shouldn't cost you more than $30 you can get it at babies r us. I also purchased a electric pump at kmart it was evenflo it worked great as well I don't think i paid more $50 for it and it was a set of 2. Hope that helped! and Congrats on the baby and God bless!

Definitely breast feed! You will save tons of money not buying formula. The average good formula runs at least 20.00-25.00 a can! You can get an Evenflo electric pump at Walmart for under 40.00. I tried the Gerber hand pump, it was horrible and quit working completely after only three uses.

I exclusively pumped with my first child. I purchased an Evenflo dual electric breast pump. It was only around $50 and worked wonderfully-it's fast and efficent. It broke about 3 weeks after I started using it (about 6 months after I bought it) and I called the company and they overnighted me a new one, no charge to me, they just asked a few simple questions. I never had any other problems with it and plan on using it again with the child I am currently pregnant with. I would definately buy another product from them! You can buy the same one I bought at Wal-Mart for about $50...still!

Medela is the best, but also expensive. It's also much quieter and has a longer "life" than the cheap ones. You can get a manual one too, but they are a pain, can get hard to use, and will make your frustrated (I kept that one in my car with a jar for emergencies). You may want to check with your local breastfeeding resource center and they can help you (if you are on WIC they can help you too). A double pump is easier too if you can swing it, takes a lot less time! Also, another thing to do is add it to your registry for your shower if you are having one. Someone may get it for you. Good luck!

If its only for occasional use, a manual pump will probably do, but the convenience of an electric one can't be beat! I would just get a single pump, automatic cycling if you choose electric. Walmart and places like that have them for aorund $20.

the manual pumps suck! they are hard to use. cheap pumps are just that...cheap. my friend's broke within a week! I bought mine online. The brand name is AMEDA and it worked great! My best friend also used the same one. She only pumped and didn't breast to mouth feed and hers held up well and was comfortable for her. I think it was about $150. I used mine at work everyday though. My mom bought mine for me! Your child's grandparents should be so pleased that you are breastfeeding that they would be happy to chip in! Here's a link to a site selling pumps. I used the Ameda Purely Yours model.

I was very happy with avent manual, and I used to pump in the morning, when my breasts were full, I breastfed from one breast, and pumped from the other. it helps, if you want to go out once in a while to be able to pump, so someone else can feed the baby.
