Fertile mucus is stretchy, clear or clear with streaks of red, and resembles raw egg whites.
Nearly all women have the white, thick, sticky mucus before it turns to the eggwhite mucus, this is normal.
If you only ever see the thick white stuff, then there's probably a problem, but if it does turn thinner and stretchy then that is fine.
Sperm can't swim through hostile mucus--they get tangled and die.
Clomid is known to cause hostile mucus. You need to discuss this with your dr and have him do a Post-Coital Test. When you get a pos OPK, you have sex that night and the next morning you go to the dr and they remove some of the mucus from your cervix and view it under a microscope. If the sperm are all dead, you have hostile mucus, but if some are still swimming forward, you are fine.
There are some things you can do at home to try to help. Pre-seed is certainly a good option. Also, raw eggwhites can be used as lubrication and sperm can swim through it.
Also, drink lots of water, drink green tea, avoid things that dry your mucus like benadryl and allergy meds. And start taking Robitussin--here's more info-- http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/cm.html just be sure to use the EXACT kind the article mentions.

For some women with good mucus, taking Clomid can make the mucus bad.
But there is still hope, because having bad mucus just makes the odds lower, it does not by itself make it impossible. Lubricant does not improve the mucus in any way.
If you find that you are not getting pregnant this way, one option would be to separate the best-moving sperm from the bad ones and pass the sperm through the mucus sending it directly to the final destination using a soft flexible tube. This is known as intrauterine insemination and has made the difference between getting a baby and not in many women. It's something to ask your doctor about if you get to the point where you are concerned enough to do so. Hopefully, you get pregnant soon before you get to that point. Best of luck!!

Listen to the second answerer, Robitussin. The only active ingredient should be guaifenesin. Any other active ingredients can dry you up more or cause birth defects. Take it as directed starting 4 days before your expected ovulation and one day after. Preseed I don't believe helps with cervical mucus, they have just done studies that show that many lubricants like KY Jelly can actually kill off a lot of sperm, while preseed didn't kill off as much. At least that's what I know anyway. Good luck.

Try taking Robitussin. the regular plain robitussin...the one with no initials or anything after the name. use that starting about four or five days prior to when you will ovulate and continue until a few days after you ovulate. Robitussin thins out all your mucous, including cervical and can be of help.
I would also recommend using Preseed lubricant. Don't use regular KY Jelly type of lubricants because they can make it tough for the sperm to get through to their destination. Don't use saliva either, it has a high PH and can damage sperm's motility.
Good luck!

You need the proper kind of CM to get pregnant - thin, stretchy, egg-white like, because this is what is most nourishing to the sperm and gives them the most mobility.
According to my family planning book, you can increase the fluidity of your CM by:
1) Making sure you are getting enough water - 6 to 8 glasses a day
2) Getting a lot of Vitamin A (you can get this from carrots)
3) Taking an expectorant like Robitussin
4) Avoiding antihistamines like Benadryl
Good luck.

It is harder to get pregnant without EWCM since that helps the sperm survive and get where they're going. The good news is that there are lots of things you can do to get more ECMW, such as using Pre-Seed, drinking coconut water, and even using cough medicine.
