Who gave/will give your baby their first bath, and how old were they/will they be?

If you give birth in a hospital, do nurses bath your baby? If so, are you not upset at missing baby's first bath?

How old should baby be when they have their first bath, is it necessary to bath so soon after birth? I don't know how these things usually happen. I had my baby at home and didn't bathe her until she was about 2 weeks old. Is it a routine hospital procedure to bath a newborn, and if so, does anyone know why? I'm curious.

Thanks for your answers!

The nurses will give the baby a sponge bath the day he is born. Normally it's just to make sure that they are completely clean after the delivery. But they bathed him right in my room. It was nice to see how it was done since it was my first baby. The first time I actually gave him a bath was when he was 2 weeks old and his umbilical cord had fallen off.

The nurses will bathe your baby within the first few hours of life - just a sponge bath is all that's really needed. And yes, a bath is needed because it was just soaking in bodily fluids and blood and it needs to be cleaned thoroughly. They also use it as a teaching opportunity to show the parents how to properly bathe your baby - and there is a technique - you want to wash the areas you want kept the cleanest first (face and hands) and the dirtiest parts of the baby last (genitals and rear). They also teach you little things about your baby, like if the baby has birth marks, bruises, or newborn rash, etc. so that you know what is normal and what is not.

Once you're at home, baby doesn't need a full-body cleaning every day, maybe once every 3-4 days is enough to do the whole body. But you will want to wash your baby's face and neck (dribbles of milk that get down into neck folds, etc.) and hands at least daily.

Don't give a full-immersion bath until the cord has fallen off, which is usually at about 7-14 days. Even then an immersion bath is not necessary. Sponge baths are just fine for the first several months if you choose. Most babies don't like immersion baths until they are a little older anyway.

My baby was never bathed in hospital as he was in special care for 7 days. I first bathed him the day after we got home and he was 8 days old and he loved it, he is a real water baby and has never cried yet in the bath.

Bathing a sprint one that likes baths is usually a splashy affair. it is likewise relaxing and does not final long, relish it while you are able to. attempt giving her a bathtub in the sink instead of the toddler bath while you're uncomfortable with it. that is plenty extra handy and lots extra handy on your back and legs, (do not understand why you're kneeling until eventually you have the toddler tub on the floor or in the customary tub?). consistently tub a sprint one so which you're able to be delicate, there is way less hazard which you will drop her or she would be waiting to slip. in case you do use the sink be certain you place a nonslip mat in the backside in the past filling with water or use a small towel or washcloth as a mat.

As a general rule of thumb, you arnt meant to bath a newborn till 48 hours after delivery so depending how long your in there you might not bath in hospital and if its not your first they dont show you as i wasnt shown after my first but knew how to with no problems. If you do get to bath in hospital just say can i help or i want to do it can you just guide me? If you really dont want to bath your baby in hospital then you dont have to at all no problem with that, to be honest leave it as long as you can just top and tale baby, as you need to keep the cord dry as posible in order to drop off. Dont worry all be fine either way, good luck x

the nurse will give them a sponge bath and thts all you should do til they are old enough to sit in a chair in thw bath so when they are about 3-4 months bath them in a seat when they get to 5-6 months you can strt holding them in there bath by holding there head and they can splash and get used to it make sure you get a baby bath temerture mesurer. but either give them a wet wipe wash or sponge bath it will work i used to look after my sister

In our hospital, my husband and I gave her the first bath, under guidance of the nurse. They explain why and how to do everything (not that you wouldn't know it for yourself) but I guess some people just don't have the experience.
