It's topic of argument, like any other, but very emotional for many people. And, like any argument, each party believes that THEY have the right answer, and can not understand why the entire world does not see things as they do. People end up "pushing" without even realizing they are doing it. I don't know that I would agree that Christians are "obligated" to do anything, we have free will, and not all Christians are as pious as Jesus, certainly none are perfect. I would say rather, if someone is seeking to know about Christianity, then talk about it. It is possible to have a discussion without becoming a dictator. Communication in a calm and civil manner is the key to understanding differences between people, not fighting.

I just asked a question along the same lines and never really got a good answer. It seems that we are all so caught up in our own existence that it takes an anvil breaking over someones head before we realize that others have the right to live as they will. We shouldn't begrudge someone happiness just because they do not seek happiness from the same places that we do. If we could learn to set religion aside and concentrate on individual peoples needs.... the world would be a better place to live.
:o) Be Well.

Anyone who thinks their belief system is above reproach is just fooling themselves. When you bring your opinions into a public place such as YA!, you just HAVE to assume that people are going to challenge you.
I find that alot of the whining, both from fellow atheists and Christians, comes from not only neglecting this fact, but the fact that populism is the preferred style of politics in our era. Populism is the concept of revolution; that the "institution" is duping the people, and that secretly, there is a desire for change, spearheaded by a courageous few who are willing to stand up to the "man".
For Christians, it is the godless liberal media that preaches hedoism and amoralism, with the righteous christians stemming the tide.
For the Atheists, it is the Christian right-wing, that wants to impose its arbitrary religious values on a population that doesn't want them, with the courageous pocket of scientists and secular forward thinkers fighting the good fight.
I couldn't tell you which is closer to the truth (that it is Christians being bombarded or Atheists being bombarded), because I just don't have the data to back up any assertion. But what I can tell you is that as an Atheist, I know my side, I know who I am going to agree and disagree with, so don't expect me to just ignore Christians when they tell me that I am secretly crying out for the Lord's salvation. Furthermore, I wouldn't post a question, say, about evolution vs intelligent design, or pro-life vs pro-choice, without expecting some sort of rebuttal.
So in conclusion, I just ignore the whining and answer as I please. Not worth complaining about it, because complaining never solves any problems

(from a Christian perspective)
You can't even ask about a parable without being told that your beliefs are archaic.
It makes me want to find another place to do this where atheism is not as prevalent. But then again like you said, I'm obligated to spread the word which would be not only among likeminded people. Also if I flee from every opposition that's saying something about my faith.

The Bible does tell us to spread the word, but it should be done in a loving manner, which is very hard for some people to do, unfortunately. Emotions come into play and people get excited or angry.

It seems to be more the other way around. Take this category for instance, it is not the Religion and Spirituality section. Yet here are christians spreading their word.

I agree with you completely. but both belief systems have a tendency to be a bit pushy, makes me angry.
i really think that no one should try to convert anyone else. people should just mind their own damn business....
but i suppose if no one tried to convert anyone else then there would be no new people signing up...and the belief would die...
but i degress...yes it probably should be the other way around.

i think athiesst try to condemn christians and bad mouth them but i dont think thats them trying to push their beliefs.... they just tell christians theyre idiots. Ive seen in my experiences that most devout christians will hear the ignorance and say "im going to pray for your soul" so i guess i really dont know but thats my personal observations.

How are Christians pushing their belief onto anyone who asks Christians a question and they graciously respond?
Check your R&S and you'll find alot of Christian bashing going on.
