I'm 38 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Yesterday at the docs i was 1cm dilated, baby's head is right there, and im short and soft.

Starting last night and all through most the night i've been getting strong contractions but not all were painful, mostly uncomfortable, feeling like i have gas, and lots of pressure on my pelvis.

How soon is labour for me? Why dont my contractions hurt very much? please help!

When i have the contractions it almost feels like period cramps..? are those the real thing or just false labour?

This could either be strong Braxton Hicks (contrary to popular belief, Braxton Hicks can sometimes be mildly uncomfortable), or very early, latent labor, which could go on for hours, days, or even weeks!

Try drinking a glass of water, and lying on your side to rest. See if the contractions get farther apart and less painful. If they continue at the same pace, you might be in early labor and might want to phone your doctor just to update them. No need to run to the hospital unless your water breaks, you have bleeding, or your contractions are consistently 5-7 minutes apart and are so uncomfortable that you have to stop what you're doing and focus to get through them.

Good luck, and congrats in advance!

Sounds just like my first pregnancy. I didn't have painful contractions until I was 5 cm. dilated. I went to the hospital after a few days of having light contractions a few minutes apart and 2 cm. They sent me home. Believe me, you know when the contractions are the real thing!

This sounds like what I went through with my last pregnancy. Early (or latent) labor lasted for three days and then my water broke on the fourth day, so I was not admitted until the 4th day.

It was strange and a little bit frustrating to have contractions (painful, too) on and off for three days, and to be slowly dilating, but still not be in "active labor."

It just takes patience, hon, and rest. Please rest while you have the chance because labor is hard work and after baby comes sleep goes out the window!

All the best to you

My contractions weren't painful until the doctor broke my water. I was just uncomfortable and having a hard time sitting still. I think that you should head to the hospital, it is probably time!

Congratulations!

Addition: When I went to the hospital they had me walk around the lobby for 1 hr to help it along. Then I had her a few hours later. Good luck

Are the pains 5 minutes apart consistently?? if so, your in labor , and some people aren't always in excruciating pain. and yes, it may feel like you need to have a bowel movement . all the nerves are in the same general area. Now get in the car and head for the hospital.
