What is the twelve stone circle in the Mastbos just south of Breda, Netherlands?
I was walking in the forest and found these twelve boulders in a circle with twelve wood post just on the inside of each boulder, with a wood post in the center of the circle. The name of the forest is the Mastbos, it is just to the south of Breda, Netherlands. What is this twelve stone circle?

I do not live in the area, so I had to use internet to look for you.
If it is this circle you have seen:

It seems to be an art project, depicting the different towns or communities in the area.
8 of the stones are big, high, and are for the places called 'zaligheden', the flat stones are for this places that are there but are called different.

I hope this helps.

The bigger stones represent the "Acht Zaligheden" (Eight Devinities) of the area named Kempen: Eersel, Hulsel, Netersel, Knegsel, Reusel, Steensel, Duizel and Wentersel (Wintelre).

The flat stones represent the other towns in Kempen, amd the wooden post symbolises the Dutch-Belgium border.

The word Zaligheden however originated from the word Selligheden, which does not mean Devinities. Selligheden relates to the fact that these names all end with …..sel (which in old language relates to forrest on a hill).

The word Selligheden (woodland hills) was likely cynically changed to Zaligheden (devinities) under influence of the French occupation, when these towns were suffering under extreme poverty.

The background of this story goes back several centuries, but what you saw is a modern expresion of art.

There is a 9th stone in Reusel, representing the town Bladel since 1975. But it is more like a joke and it’s an ongoing discussion wether the town Bladel belongs to the Selligheden or not………

Hope this helps.
10 points please ;-)
