yes it does get a little irritating, like text speak or bad spelling.
I like Jennifer T's answer she said it all BUT she might want to consider what she does when a plural ending in s needs to be possessive. her example
The girls were playing nicely.
(plural word 'girls' without apostrophe)
UNLESS the sentence becomes
The girls played with their toys.
Then what huh??
And of course then there is the its it's situation this breaks the general rule of apostraphisation in that it's is NOT a possessive but clearly uses an apostrophe yet its is a possessive and yet it doesn't mmmmm tough little enigma.
The dog chased its tail!
Its in this sentence is a possessive BUT isn't apostrophised.
"It's my birthday today!" said the little girl.
This is not a possessive use of it's yet it has the apostrophe BECAUSE of course the use of the apostrophe here is to indicate the missing 'i' as in "It Is my birthday.
I think the poor use of speech marks/inverted commas is MUCH worse though almost everyone gets this wrong some of the time and we really shouldn't.

I'm a perpetrator of this crime. I know better but I look at that word, my finger moves towards the apostrophe. My left hand grabs my right hand but it just can't be stopped.
It look's better to me sometimes!!!
There's another one. It's the word hospital used in a sentence. I say "I went to [the] hospital" and when the word 'the' is not included, which is usually correct, it drives me fwking nuts!
You can't change me, I'll forever be nut's on these subjects. Maybe I need a stay at the hospital, the one with the lime green vinyl sofa in the lobby.
P.S. Sheeesh but the key in between the seat cushions. .

OK Since you know all the rules:
There is an insurance corporation in London called Lloyd's - so called because it started in a coffee house belonging to Mr Lloyd. Where do you put the apostrophe in the word that means belonging to Lloyd's.

What we need is a national cull of apostrophes, to get the numbers down.
Then maybe there'd be more room for full-stops and capital letters to flourish, so, when SOME people write, we could tell where one sentence ends and the next one begins.

Yes it does annoy me. i wish people would learn to write in a grammatically correct format. i know that you only need to put the apostrophe in if the word is of a personal nature or the abbreviation of two words put togethor to make one. if the word is a plural then you dont need the apostrophe.
Examples
I needed to borrow anna's car. (personified sentence with apostrophe in the name)
The girls were playing nicely. (plural word 'girls' without apostrophe)
It's so simple and i don't know why people don't get it

Thi's i's a 'silly que'stion. Why 'should 'something 'so 'simple a's'si'st in your di'splea'sure?
It's annoying, but not disturbingly so. I'd rather a plural was made into a possessive instead of an English word made into barely decipherable gibberish (you know, the whole spell check question).

Yes , it does . The worst I've seen so far (in my opinion) was an advertisement for MAR'S bars . Uneducated nitwits mangle the English language .

Yes, I get really irritable and annoyed, especially when it is done by educated people who should know better.

It's a little irritating, but I don't let it get to me. It can be irritating in a professional capacity though on shop signs and such, you would think signwriters would get it right!!!
