Have you ever researched where they come from.....or thought about them in a "literal" sense?

I avoid tired old cliches like the plague.

Some cliches actually have very interesting sources - for example avoiding something 'like the plague' obviously comes from the Black Death or bubonic plague which swept across London in the 1600s or thereabouts.

Love cliches. best place to get them is while watching sports. Commentators use them all the time. You can have competitions with friends. By saying your own or trying to preempt what the commentator says.
" the form book goes out of the window"
" from hero to zero"
" he`ll be sore in the morning after that."

I love those sappy romance movie cliches...but at the same time i hate them b/c i know they will never happen to me =[
