The question is, do you have to work so hard?
Must you always have something to do?Is it possible that you could ease up just a little?

Most people enjoy the sense of achievement, when they have done a good job.
I also think it is VERY important, to find time, to unwind,to spend time with your family and to understand that your work, is only part, not all, of your life.

No. people Like Al Gore, Bill Clinton, celebrities, and lawyers have everything they want, because they grew up with rich families. if you were born with a silver spoon, then you are going to go to a better school, therefore getting a better job, therefore making more money, therefore becoming more popular.

most people that appreciate things in life indeed have to work for the things they want. that's why our country isn't as great as it could be. the people that run our country (except George Bush and Harry S. Truman, they lives on farms and ranches) dont know the meaning of hard labor. they have never been in the working class. some people in the working class get lucky (that is what you humans call it, we Vulcans do not believe in luck) and things that they do not work for come to them. this is not to say that they don't deserve it, however.

"easing up" is not productive, and slows down the pace as which things get done. of course everyone needs a break, but taking a larger break than you truly need to be both rested and happy is illogical.

PS: I of course am not really a Vulcan, but it makes for some funny commentary doesnt it?

Look Rena, isn't it you feel good after the pain of hard work just to get what you desire for. Isn't it you feel the exhilaration after the hard day work. However there are time in life you have to ease up a little. All work no play makes John a dull person. So we need some breathing space once in a while in life. If not, we end up exhausted and start killing ourselves softly.

Society programmes us with 'if you want something you gotta work for it' from the day we start wanting stuff.
Of course there is an element of truth in the statement and sometimes it's true BUT it really does depend on WHAT you want.
If you want a new car there are two ways of acquiring it (there are always more than two options but for the sake of this hypothesis it's only two) - you can work hard and long at a job that doesn't pay much or you can work a little bit at a job that pays a lot.

Some of this is dependant on luck which is something not discussed in xianity cos it goes against one 'god', one life; one chance to make it or fail.
Cos it asks ‘why is someone lucky’ enough to be born into privilege and luxury and some born into the most horrific of circumstances and then this 'god' critter expects both to emerge as lovers and believers in Christ.
This is patently absurd and it's one of the many reasons I could not possible believe in such a limited and immature sentimental doctrine.

Must we always have something to do - couldn't we ease up a little?
The Buddha said: All of life is suffering - all suffering is caused by desire - desire for different circumstances.

If we could lower our expectations and our desires we could be happier.
If, instead of the new car we aspired to an old car, we'd be happier and save lotsa dollars.
One of my brothers only buys Volvo station wagon for about 2 or 3000; spends a coupla grand on them and they last 4 or 5 years. The current one is about to click over 500,000 kms.
A mate bought a new car last year for his wife and will never do so again cos as he drove it outa the car yard he realised it dropped $10k.
Anyway, enough about cars. We buy new ones because of the perceived benefits we've been sucked into believing are very important.

It’s the same with many things.
‘Keeping up with the Jonses’ is hard and basically unrewarding, soul-destroying work.
‘Stuff’ doesn’t make you happy – happy is a within thingy.
It’s much more pleasant to realise that under your own steam rather than having unforseen circumstances dictate that truth to you as it did in my case.

[/EO rant]

Not really, thats just a myth that is culturally supported to make you work harder so that people at the top will make more money.

Of course there's nothing wrong with work. Work is good for you and there is much you can achieve with a bit of effort but there are plenty of good things in life that are free. Balance is what is needed not just more work.

Don't let the greedy power hungry people control you. Most people are stuck on treadmills controlled from afar; the speed keeps going up almost imperceptively but it adds up mightily over time. It shouldn't be any surprise that so many people are unhappy, stressed out and basically exhausted by not keeping a good balance.

'The best things in life are free...

...but you can keep them for the birds and bees

(please note the sarcasm - everyone seems to know at a basic level that the best things are indeed free but we work ourselves to death 'just in case'...)

I think that if we learn how to walk in beauty, the road won't be such a struggle. I feel that we must always work, but if we can learn to love our work, there will not be such a struggle. We must be true to ourselves. I feel that when people take on a job only for the money that job seems hard. If you get a change, please visit my website at http://www.rubysbooks.i8.com. Building and updating my website is a very hard job but I enjoy doing it.

Nothing in life is handed to you. it always good to have something to always look forward to. If its a job, vacation a baby. There is always a time we as people need to ease up ,but at the same time if feels good to work for something.
Have a good weekend.

your lst question - yes
2nd question - we all HAVE TO work, work gives meaning to life. So hard? well this depends on how different people define "hard"
3rd - No, we don't have to ALWAYS have something to do, it's definitely possible to ease up and let our hair down as and when we feel necessary

No - not if you're Paris Hilton.

For the rest of us mere mortals, I believe that you appreciate something more if you have had to work hard to get it.

The balance is entirely down to the individual - I prefer to live comfortably and have the time to enjoy life, rather than have lots of creature comforts. I have friends who have big houses, fast cars, boats, blah, blah, blah, but they're always working so they never have time to enjoy it.

sounds like this pertains to something specific... anyway
imo - you should definitely work hard for the things THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY in life. Otherwise you would be running around constantly trying to obtain the material things in life that dont necessarily make you happy or even content, because there is always someone/something better.

hope this helps
