I wanted to know some of the things you can do early on to prevent a miscarriage. Is too much walking and bending harmful for the baby...Sorry, I have yet to go for my first appointment so I'm kind of concerned...plus it's my first pregnancy. Could anyone please guide with a few basic tips as to what should or shouldn't do...the kinds of foods to eats, etc. I would really appreciate the help! Only experienced moms!

Thanks everyone! I did start my pre-natals even before I conceived - almost 6 months ago but some of the tips were really helpful. I'll try not to stress out myself too much and just try to be healthy and enjoy the experience :)

Congrats! I just found out too. Do some research online on what you can and can't eat. You will be surprised with some of the results and make sure you start taking your prenatal vitamins!

Congrats again!

Congrats!!! The love of a lifetime is coming your way!!

Eat healthy - heavy on the fruits & veggies, no raw meat or fish. No booze, no smoking of course. Take prenatal vitamins.

Rest when you need to and don't push yourself if you're tired. Otherwise you can keep doing whatever you normally do. The bending and lifting stuff is for later when there's extra weight in your tummy.

Early miscarriages are rarely due to anything the mother does, they're due to the baby not forming right. So all you can do is take care of yourself. I'd love to tell you not to worry, but I worried terribly through the first twelve weeks of both my pregnancies, so I know better ;-)

Try looking up some pregancy chat sites and pregancy books. I liked Keep It Simple Series and What to Expect when You're Expecting (except for the recommended diet, that was too much trouble to bother with and it's not necessary).

Good luck and I'm wishing every happiness!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! Now, relax a bit. There aren't a lot of things you can do to prevent a miscarriage besides the normal ones of staying away from drugs, alcohol and excessive amounts of caffeine. Eat a balanced diet, limit your tuna consumption (and swordfish and shark) because of mercury, eat only pasteurized dairy and juice products, try to stay away from cat litter or digging in a garden where kitties might have been, these are all standard healthy pregnancy things. Walking and bending is fine for the baby, and walking is great excessive which you need to keep doing as your pregnancy progresses (unless your doctor limits it for a medical reason.) Miscarriages are almost NEVER the fault of the mother, so stay healthy and be happy.

I'm going through my first pregnancy, and let me tell you, it's not as easy as I thought it would be! But, it's different with everybody. I've been throwing up almost everyday because of morning sickness, and earlier in the pregnancy it's hard to even think about eating food. I ate BK for 3 weeks because it was the only thing I could keep down. My doctor's advice was to eat whatever you could keep down until the nausea went away, then eat a balanced diet of an extra 300 calories than usual. Also, make sure you're getting your folic acid. Best thing you can do is eat what you can keep down and drink lots of water, and take your vitamins. Walking is good for you. Just get all the rest you can during your first few weeks!

Theres not much you can do to prevent a miscarriage besides avoiding trauma to the abdomen. If you are meant to have a miscarriage there is a reason and there would be nothing you could do. Just eat healthy ( on avg about 200 more calories a day) and get some light exercise in (like walking) because it will be beneficial all throughout your pregnancy. Good luck and congratulations!!!!!

Unfortunately there are no known ways to prevent miscarriage. Just try to be a healthy as possible and take your prenatal vitamins. It's OK I was the same way. Congratulations!

Well Congrats!! You will want to go to the store and get on Prenatal Vitamins. You can find them in the Vitamin isle. I got mine at Wal-Mart. And just eat healthy and drink lots of water. you'll want to limit how much junk and caffene you drink. You want to consume things that will encourage baby to grow and develop in the best way possible. Best of luck and enjoy the ride.

You will get a lot of generic answers, so here is my hopefully unique one. Don't get a LOT of Ultrasounds. Women love to "see" their baby, but the fact of the matter is that they are being exposed to an energy source, and long-term studies about the effects of high-energy soundwaves to the fetus have not been done. I am not saying DO NOT get an Ultrasound, but until further data is collected, I would suggest making sure the benefits outweigh the risks.

Congratz!

From my experience, walking will not hurt the baby. You should avoid lifting heavy things though.

Make sure you get folic acid, and start taking a vitamin if you haven't already. Drink lots of water. Protein is good for you too. Whole grains as well.

Congratulations and good luck! :)

Don't over exert yourself, if your tired take a time out. Don't lift heavy things. Avoid drugs and alcohol. I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't let paranoia stress you out either. Enjoy the pregnancy, it's a real blessing =) As for food, I say eat whatever and enjoy! LOL.
