Toyota, in their infinite wisdom, does not put this information in the owner's manual, nor is it in the shop manuals that independent shops have. They want you to come back to the dealer to have the light reset (and have your service done at dealership prices!)
Try this:
Turn on the ignition (do not start the car)
Make sure that the odometer is showing, not the trip odometer!
Turn off the key
Press and hold the trip odometer reset button
While holding the button turn on the key
Wait for the odometer reading to show in the dash
Release the trip button
The light should now be reset!

The 2007 Toyota reset is different than the postings above. To reset the Maintenance Required light, make sure the odometer reads "Trip A," not actual mileage. Then turn off the car, hold the odometer select button down, keep holding it down while you turn the ignition on (don't start the engine). Keep holding it down until the odometer goes through a series of dashes and zeros, then shows Trip A again. Then you are done.
It is not in the manual.

The maintenance light in the automotive world is generally called the "idiot" light. It is a light that goes on that says "hey pay attention to me".Since it is a 2007 Toyota matrix, you probably still have full warranty on your car,so you shouldn't have any issues either calling up your Toyota dealership or driving it in to the dealership, and asking for the chief master mechanic (the guy with the most stripes) on the particular light. If under warranty they should service it with no charge, and if they are a really decent,if they have to spend any time consumption to service it, they should provide you with a temporary"floater" vehicle for your troubles. It's all part of the dealerships customer service to keep you coming in and purchasing their vehicle.Make the customer happy, and he comes back. That attitude worked for consumers in the 18th century, and is still true today.

Check you owners manual, but usually it is done through the radio, or something similar. My 2007 Equinox has a menu that you access through a button above the radio.

I would take a look at your owners manuel. It should discuss this light and how it is turned off. In most cases these lights are illuminated by the car's computer and you have to have a technition hook up their computer to your car to turn off the code in the computer that is causing the light to be on.
good luck.

Take some of the oil out. sounds like its too full. Then drive it. Sometimes thats all it takes,,,,, its real simple. Just use a surrenge or a Turkey baster....lol lol whatever ya got, that'll work. If that don't work, I hear that a few swear words sometimes helps.... lol

Cut the cord to the light. You'll never have to see it again.
