If she wants to be an investigator, perhaps she should begin by investigating the answers to these questions on her own!

How many years of college depends on which degree she is going to work towards. Generally, if she is going to get her associates degree it should take two years, where if she is going to get her bachelors degree it will take four years. Usually, it is better to have a bachelors degree, but in the criminal justice field, you rarely need more than an associates degree, though it depends on your state requirements.

How many classes also depends on which degree she will be working towards. Generally, an associates requires approximately 60 credits, while a bachelors requires approximately 120 credits (MOST, but not all, classes are 3 credit classes).

She should not need to take specific training on top of her classes, unless the school she chooses to go to requires it specifically. Normally though, it will be up to whomever she later becomes employed with to train her.

The yearly income varies from state to state. Go to your state's web page. There will be a section of the page called career development, and there should be a PDF file that lists a bunch of different occupations and the average yearly income to go with it. Here, you can also find what training and education level your state requires for each specific occupation.

If your sister is still in high school, it would be beneficial for her to go and talk to her guidance counselor about it. He/she will be able to provide her with resources and answer her questions better than I can, since he is familiar with your area.

An additional note: I recommend that your sister AT LEAST minor in Forensic Science, if she does not with to double major Criminal Justice and Forensic Science. It will be very beneficial to her in the future. Also, she should keep in mind that she may not be able to start out as an investigator. Most people start out on the police force and work their way up to the investigator level.

Good luck!
