Run a plumbers snake into the pipe behind the p-trap. If there is black dirt, it's likely that there is either grease or hair clogging it. A snake will generally go about 10 ft, so it should help to clear it.

If you can get at it to see the pipe that connects to the main pipe, then replace all the cast iron stuff with ABS plastic. Iron builds up a scaly crust on the inside which becomes difficult to remove. And then if you do clean it you may have leaks. The only thing stopping leaks may be the build up. Replace it. It does a great job and you will be good for a long time. It isn't that difficult a job but if you can't do it it is worth getting it done.

After this clog in the future... DO NOT USE DRAINO.. It's very caustic and if you need to call a plumber it's very dangerous for them... Once a month I like to put straight household bleach in all the drains.. Usually at night so it has a chance to work... I will also turn off the water valve to the toilet and put 2-3 cups in the bowl and let that sit.. I have a *note I put on the toilet to ALERT my husband so he doesn't use the toilet at night to flush BEFORE use or toxic fumes will be emitted.. ! This has kept my drains clog free for yrs... I was told to do this by a master plumber... Bleach will not harm your pipes...It will also remove gunk build-up and hair.. I've also gotten rid of clogs in the toilet this way ! good luck....

About once a quarter you need to use a good wet/dry shop vac on your drains. It will suck out all the hair and crap before it had a chance to clog your pipes and cost you a lot of money.

Try sucking it out first with a strong vac. It is worth the money to buy one or if you know someone with a good one, borrow it for a little but. Good luck.
