If your office is like mine, there's a splitter plugged into the wall, with the phone line and the DSL line plugging into the other side of the splitter.. Lightning could have ran in the splitter and fried the phone part, but not the internet part.

It's happened here before. We called the AT&T repair guy, and that's what he told me (in not so big words).

I'm hoping you're getting Pizza Hut pizza...I'm starving!

It's *technically* the same line but they use different parts of the line. That's now you can use the phone and be o nthe internet at the smae time with DSL - they're not actually competing for the same resources.
Mmmm - pizza. My hometown has the best pizza joint - I think they're currently flooded though. :(

tell me where are u located and it depends on the service provider ...
if is BSNL/MTNL it is dead sure that the lines r going to be down and if it like airtel or some big one it will work even during a storm as the wiring done is underground.
if u have a dsl connection i donno how ur net works but the telephone does not as they are on a common line on which a splitter is installed which separates the internet and the voice signals.
wat u r saying can never happen unless ur splitter is not working.....

Ok...Smarty Pants will answer....

Your DSL (digital subscriber line) is essentially one piece of your phone line....once they hit the pole and the switchers...phone and DSL go two different ways.

Usually the telephone switchers are analog and are more susceptible to storm damage...

Call the phone company...they will figure it out for you!

i would say that its because your phone itself is fried, or since your dsl goes through a modem that your connections are messed up.

try unpluging all of it turn off your modem or what ever you dsl is connected to wait a few minutes then plug it all back in and turn it on.

If that still doesn't work use your cell phone or email the phone company.

Hey Earnest,

Same thing happened to me a while back. Turns out the storms somewhat, "shut off" the phone line. I called the company on my cell phone and they told me to flip the circuit breaker and unplug all phone lines in the house, then flip the breaker on, and then plug everything in, and toggle the circuit breaker one more time.

This worked for me, but maybe it's different for you. I highly suggest calling your provider.

What?? DSL and phone lines aren't connected. DSL is connected to a modem.

Are you getting phone, internet, and TV all in the same package? Answer is obvious if that is the case. Is this a trick question?

well I'm not sure how it works, but last month i forgot to pay my bill and it was shut off and i still had dsl...maybe the satellite still picks up even though the land line is down

...you didn't pay your "bill" ? ...seriously... your "ranges are out of sync"... it know that sounds overly technical but if your incoming signal is not compatible with your outgoing signal, your in a mess... the problem is most likely "up on the pole".
call the service company... sometimes after a "glitch" or a "surge" in the line or your (here comes a bid word) Ethernet network adapter is not working right... "problems" !!!
(Isn't technology wonderful).
