First go through and declutter your home. You will have less to work with then. Establish a good routine. Some good examples can be found on www.flylady.com

Good luck!

First of all, my guess is part of the reason you are having this problem is that you do "work". I work full time and have 3 small children and it's extremely hard to keep the house clean and get homework, sports, etc taken care of and still spend time with my husband and children.

I like the suggestion of the person who does things on a morning routine. I do most of the major cleaning (scrubbing tubs and toilets, mopping, etc) on Saturday early so that the house is clean and we can enjoy the rest of the weekend. During the week, clothes are washed nightly, dishwasher is ran, and vacuuming is done as needed through the week and then again on Saturday. Sure my house isn't spotless, but my kids have more time to spend with me and really, in 10 years what will my kids remember more?

It's a never-ending battle to keep a house clean.. Add children, pets and a husband and it's nearly impossible ! I work nights so I try during the day to have a "routine". In the morning I go into the bathroom and wipe down all the surfaces (toilet, sink, counters) with antibacterial wipes.. I also once or twice a week, will turn off the toilet water tank and pour about 2-3 cups in the bowl and let that sit for 10-30 min.. I also spray the tub/tile surround with a solution of 50/50 bleach/water.. This really whitens the tile grout and removes any mold or mildew w/o scrubbing.. I let that sit as well.. I gather up the dirty laundry and run a load....

* I then move to the kitchen and wipe all the counters, high chairs and other surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes.. Get the kids started on breakfast and unload the dishwasher.... While they are eating I vacuum the livingroom, diningroom and bedrooms... I strip the beds and let them air out for a few hours *dust mites LOVE warm moist places.. So airing out your bed in the morning keeps them out...

*I'll then start a load of laundry....

When the kids are done they go into the living room and play while I sweep/mop kitchen and reload dishwasher.. When I'm done I move on to the bathroom and swirl/flush the toilet, rinse the tub and wipe out the sink.. I sweep/mop the bathroom later in the day or week..

I remake the beds, put the wash in the dryer and take a break... It usually takes about 1-1 1/2 to 2 hours.. I have a medium sized home about 1700 square feet.. It's a ranch..

At night- when I'm not working I have my husband give the kids a bath and get them ready for bed and I will pick up toys and tidy up the livingroom/diningroom... I will also sweep/mop the kitchen and run a load of laundry... I set my dishwasher to time delay so it's running around 3am and my house is tidy... Once a week when I'm off I like to go from room to room and deep clean them and put everything away in it's place..

*I just started working nights so my husband is "trying" to do all the things I usually do and well needless to say when I get home he's DOG TIRED and I think he wishes I didn't work... Since it's harder work staying at home than when I'm at work... So, good luck

Easy..just hire a cleaning service and you will quickly find that you will clean your house on your own before the cleaning people get there since you won't want them to see what a messy person you really are. You'll eventually get to the point that you keep your house clean and can cancel the cleaning service.

Depends on what you consider "clean"
I am not a clean freak, I clean when I have to because someone is visiting or I just cant stand it anymore! Clean to me means that everything is mostly put away, floors are washed, the house is dusted and vacuumed.
I "pick up" daily, wash table and counters and keep things orderly. It looks clean to the eye, but that normally means the floors and rugs are not spotless.

It's a new philosophy we came up with just a few years ago... it's called WORK. To do this, first start by turning off your computer, turning off the home phone, turning off the cell phone, turning off the tv (awwww, gotta miss your favorite soap apera....darnit!), gettin your butt out of the bed or off the couch, puttin on some clothes, wrappin a hankie around your head so you look like Aunt Jemima, pickin up all the messes, throwin away the trash, washing and drying clothes, folding and hanging clothes, dusting, ironing, washing dishes, making beds, cleaning the toilets, cleaning the bath tubs, cleaning the sinks, sweep and mop all tile/linoleum floors, vacuum carpeted areas, kick the dog for crapping on the floor then rub his nose in it (after which you get to wipe it up), etc etc.

A few of us in the world have just recently started subscribing to this radical new philosophy called "WORK", but we're finding out that it really does accomplish things! Be a part of our new radical movement and try it out! Let us know what you think!!!

In stages, one little area at a time...start with your sink for just a couple of days, concentrate on just keeping it clean. Better yet go to this website, sign up for free and follow their system - works wonders for me. It's based on a simple concept - pick up after yourself. Good luck!

The same way everyone else does, honey. Work. And there is a difference between dirty and messy. My house is rarely dirty, but almost always messy.

don't let dirt accumulate for more than a week. Mop, vacuum every week.
