Why do people who disagree with certain religions bash them so vehemently.....?

A person with a good reason to believe he is right has little need to fear argument or evidence. If you challenge such a person, they will not get defensive... perhaps just upset at your foolishness.

A person with a tenuous grasp on his beliefs has a good reason to fear any discussion of it. They must stop argument before it occurs, lest they accidentally become convinced of something new.

Many people resent having been deceived their whole lives, and are simply rebelling. And when you are in such a small minority as atheists you have to constantly defend yourself against delusional zealots of all religions. Religion has a long history of "convert or die" hatred.

I hate people who are like that..and they argue like if they don't force someone to agree they're going to die. If you want to discuss someone' religion with them, go ahead, but don't try to change their belief system to suit yourself. In the end it's just one person trying to get a firmer grasp on his beliefs by changing other people's opinions.

It all really comes down to somebody not wanting any doubt. With all the religions in the world, its easy to be uncertain. People just want reassurance.
