Yes, hypnosis does help. But is also depends on how susceptible are you to suggestion. Hypnosis does not work on just anyone. Hynosis is not about making you lose consciousness. ITs about putting someone into a state of deep relaxation whereby all the sense are highly active and in that state you are open to suggestion.
The hypnotherapist usally will suggest that you hate smoking or somthing about it you will start to detest. IT takes a few tries for the messege to fully take effect but it does have effect. Interestingly it can be used to control craving as well. Say someone is really sweettoothed and carves sugary snacks all the time. He or she can be suggested that they hate such snacks from young or had a bad experience like getting sick form it. There was an experiment done that proved this.

Yes it does, but by free will. Hypnosis is a state of conciousness where your focus is greatly increased. In that state you are more able to access memories (such as when a habit began) and trace new intentions, whereby you can create a 'new memory' as though it had happened. Once embedded, the unconcious mind does not distinguish between true and embedded memories. Psychologists sometimes call this "false memories". Nevertheless, it can help you to reprogram triggers that lead to obsessive behavior, like smoking etc. It does work. But it does not overpower you. You will have to decide to accept the new thoughts. It is, however, the most simple way to reprogram ideas or triggers in your past. Very effective.

Hypnosis is frequently used to assist a person to stop smoking, which is a tissue dependent addiction. It may depend on what "addiction" you are referring to. Some people view obsessive compulsive behaviour as an addiction, which not everyone agrees is a "true" addiction. However, hypnosis with a well-trained hypnotherapist is an effective way to take control over your choices, your feelings and your life.

Hypnosis will HELP you to solve the addiction problem by helping you to not engage in the addictive behavior. The addiction is going to solve itself if you quit doing the drugs or alcohol. It'll hurt but you gotta get by the pain and get on with your life.

I've heard all the claims too. but honestly, if it did work - there would be A LOT of rehab clincs out of buisness. There wouldn't be anywhere near as many people with as many problems...
People would be able to stop smoking..
I wouldn't be 60 lbs overweight..
There are tons of addictions in this world..
There is cigarette addictions
sexual addictions
drug and alchohol addictions
addictions to food..

I haven't tried it myself but my friend's parents used it to quit smoking and they'd smoked since we were kids and just quit cold turkey. Also, this older lady I worked with also told me that she had used hypnosis to quit smoking a few years before and that she had just quit and never even considered having a cigarette after. I quit smoking myself just by quitting, but I can't say I've never thought about having one again (and I've had a couple over the past couple years).

AS A FORMER THERAPIST I NEVER RECOMMENDED HYPNOSIS TO HELP WITH ADDICTIONS. THERE IS ALWAYS THE PROBLEM OF SYMPTOM SUBSTITUTION.
BATTLING AN ADDICTION WITH HARD WORK AND FIERCE RESOLVE CAN BE VERY SATISFYING. STOP SMOKING BECAUSE YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO. TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND THANK THE CREATOR YOU CAN STILL BREATH, RELAX AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

It can in some cases. It depends on how receptive the person is to the suggestions the mind is given.
