yes in most cases they keep records for up to 10 years.
depending on the lawyer they might put it to cold storage.
or scan the files to be stored on cd or dvd.

each state law is diff. in massachusetts, lawyers are required to keep old files for 7 years. most states have a minimum number of years for which they require lawyers to keep their files. i would check with your states professional rules of conduct for lawyers.
