We are switching out the carpet in our kitchen for vinyl (actually, it's better, it has fiberglass or something in it too). Anyway.... while the stove and fridge and such are all moved out I am going to clean the walls. The walls are painted taupe...
Behind the stove they are are streaked and greasy. What would be the best way to go about cleaning these walls?

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is great for spot cleaning walls...takes almost everything off and does not damage the paint.

Depending on the type of paint.. flat, gloss or semi-gloss... If it's flat.. Your best bet is to repaint.. However, if it's got a shine to it.. It's best to use some vinegar/warm water... Get a couple of big sponges, like the one's you wash your cars with and use them slightly damp.. Your room will smell like easter eggs for a bit but, that will go away.. Use 2 C. per gallon of water.. Or you can use a bit of non-sudsing ammonia in a gallon of hot water..

Tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) or a TSP-alternative. You can buy it at a hardware store or other mass-market retailer. Dilute it to the manufacturer's suggestions, and be sure to wear gloves. It's commonly used to prep walls before painting but removes grease and other buildup very well.
