Daydreamer, Aswan is a really beautiful part of Egypt and there is a lot to see and do. The Nubian people, who make up the majority of the local population, are so open and friendly and are fair to deal with. There is a great Nubian Bazaar at Aswan that I always seem to find something I want to buy at.
You have quite a selection of ancient Egyptian sites to see in the area including the famous and very interesting Kom Ombo temple.
There are also some great eating places and many make a point of going to The Cascades Hotel which was made famous in Agatha Christies novel thriller Murder on the River Nile.
Sitting on the balcony with a nice cool drink of something special, watching the boats go by and the sun go down while the Nile changes from blue to molten gold before getting dark is really quite special.
Another place that is a definite must see is Luxor. There is just so much there you need at least two full days. One day to spend seeing the west bank (where I live) the location of The Valley of The Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple, the Rameseum,
The Valley of the Queens and Nobles,Deir el Medina the workers village are just the main sights on the west bank.
The Luxor Temple and the huge temple complex of Karnak are must sees on the east side. There is also lots of bargains to be found at the recently renovated bazaar and Luxor has a great night life and plenty of places to eat out.
So I think you are pretty well guaranteed to enjoy every minute you spend there and take home some incredible memories.
I am sure that you will be determined to return and do it all again.

Hi, Aswan is VERY nice. But you should go in winter (December - Feb timeframe), as in summer it is hot.
Hot spots in Egypt. is all depends if you are intrested in beach or pharonic activities.
For Beach, You have to go to the Red Sea (Sharm El Sheik), for monuments and stuff you have to go to Luxur and Cairo (i.e Giza) to see the pyramids, ...etc. But Aswan it a beautiful place for all tastes. Try to go to Old Cataract hotel and spend some time in the terrace during sunset and you will never forget my advice. I m from Egypt, Unfortunetly not living in Aswan, but if you need any help just contact me. Have fun.

Abu Simbel Temple is there! That's huge and IMPORTANT!
but if u r going there, then u should def. pass by luxor!
There you can see:
Karnak and Ramsis Temples and the valley of the kings (where u can see the tombs of the kings) and other museums in luxor
but beware that it's gonna be really hot this time of the year... I mean like 90% humidity and 40C-45C of temp.
