It's hard to compete with Canadian teams as far as popularity goes, but hockey in Colorado is very VERY popular, the Avs do stand behind football, and probably a little behind the NBA (but that's cause the nuggets have A.I. and Melo! Yea baby!) but just barely behind the Nugs. They're still way ahead of the dreadful rockies. We sell out every game usually, and with the crapass play of our team in the first part of the season, no wonder games weren't selling out. This season every home game will be sold out though. So I think in the NW, the Avs are the most popular nationally. I think more people know about them because of all the fights with the wings in the 90s. We've been the only consistent team in our division since 96, that might count for something as well. BTW, looks like we got ourselves a third Bob Loblaw!! LMAO!

Also, let me add this, the Colorado Avalanche will be shown on national television on VS 8 times this year, that's tied for the most with the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Philadelphia Flyers. Do you see the trend here? All those teams are in the eastern time zone, except the Avs. That means that the Avs are that much more popular, even being in the mountain time zone, and still being shown on national tv the most. Those 5 teams right there (Avs, NYR, Flyers, Wings, Pens), are what VS thinks are the most popular NHL teams and markets in the states, and I agree with them. This list absolutely proves that the Avs are the most popular team in the NW (in the U.S. at least), it also shows that in the U.S. we're probably second in popularity in the entire western conference (behind the wings). The Avs are a contender this year, and that's what makes them the 2nd most popular team in the western conference (to americans).

Ask a fan in a different city and get a different answer. Other than a few US teams most Canadian teams have more fans. It's just the way it is up here. If you don't like hockey we deport you. $.02
