I'll have to say the IRS. They don't know how much money they've got or where it goes to.

Departments of.....
Education...too much money for too little return.Kids these days are dumber than dogsh#%.Total waste of funds.
Labor...Ask the dead miner's families what they think.
State...These bast#%ds have been selling America out since FDR
Interior...They want to keep you out of the wilderness which is public land while they watch thousands of acres go up in flames.States would be better stewards.
There is so much money wasted(stolen) by the government that it is impossible to single out the "most wasteful".Each of these and the departments not mentioned, have layers and layers of bureaucracy...just like an onion.
Imagine the dollars we would have for our ownselves if our taxes weren't used to feed deadbeats and frauds,or the roads we drive upon were smooth and well maintained.
Think of how that money would be better spent in modernizing mass transit in our cities and across the nation.Imagine the horrible graft that our taxxes pay for in foreign lands. And on and on and on and on...
Prohibitive taxes were the catalysts that brought about the glorious American Revolution, and I would charge the guns in another one without a backward glance..I want my country back.

DoD. Although Corporate Welfare is criminally wasteful and it occurs to a large extent through DoD no bid contracts.
Do you know your hard work keeps the rich rich?
edit: Why do people wish to imply that because the US government is wasteful that government is inherently wasteful? Have you any proof that private industry is more efficient? I am tired of this myth and will denounce it as voodoo until i see some proof.
If you want to see efficient government look at Cuba. Do you think that after a half century of embargo the US would be able to survive? let alone feed, educate and give medical services to its population?
Why did the US have to kill so many people to destroy communism? Could it be that otherwise it might have worked? Why is that so scary?

I've got to agree with "yeah-but-we-all-are", Homeland security has been a joke from the start.
Let's trace the logic behind it's creation:;
"OK, so we've got all these entrenched bureaucracies, all guarding their own turf, and refusing to share information", "What can we do??"........".I know, let's combine them, and create the biggest, most costly department ever!"
Brilliant thinking wasn't it ?

Defense Department. They spend a rediculous amount on weapons systems they end up scrapping or getting little use out of.

The words government and wasteful are synonymous.
To determine the most wasteful would be like trying to pick-out which grain is largest in a handful of sand.

That would be the entire federal government. I am in the Army and I nearly have heart attacks on how wasteful we can be.

Actually that makes a lot of sense to me, so I'm cool with it. I couldn't guess which one was the worst offender.

CONGRESS. Why? They do nothing and vote themselves pay raises. They take junkets to tropical islands and golf excursions at taxpayer expense. They have immunity from some laws...it goes on and on.
