Be sure to dry your towels completely after washing in good detergent and vinegar rinse, or baking soda in the wash water helps too. If you can dry them outside on a windy, sunny day that really gets the smells out. Just don't store them in a tightly closed cabinet unless they are absolutely dry & clean.

I had been throwing away towels for years until someone recently gave me a solution that works! First run your load of towels on the rinse cyle with about 1 cup of plain white vinegar. Then run your regular cycle (the hottest water possible) with regular detergent. I don't even use bleach anymore on my whites! WORKS LIKE A CHARM!

I wash all my laundry with regular detergent but, I add about 1/2C. to 1c. of baking soda to the wash water.. This not only allows me to use less detergent but, it removes any odors w/o adding perfume.. It also rinses the soap residue from my clothing and brightens it ... It keeps my clothing soft w/o adding fabric softner which ruin towels... It will also get rid of any "foul" or musty odors... I don't just throw my towels away ! I get yrs. and yrs of use from them before I ever just throw them away ! Towels aren't cheap ! Good luck

This time of the year with all the humidity I have a very difficult time with this, mine tend to smell a bit musty. I toss that ones that do because you'll never get that odor out. I just buy new.

Although to KKing above, I will give it a try.
