Low rpm will save fuel. That means easy starts, lower speeds when you're cruising on the highway, and coast longer when you see you're coming to a stop ahead.

Gradual acceleration up to speed, then use cruise control whenever possible. That saves the most gas. The revs need to be enough to avoid lugging the engine, but revving to too high will just waste fuel and stress your engine.
